Re: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 BIOS corrupted by HP bios update
Can't you dump your faulty bios? You can use that faulty bios and file from HP and combine them. When it's working, you might have to use dmifit tool to insert dmi information.

I will try to dump the BIOS chip using TL866 programmer.
The windows HP bios update tool did take a backup of my bios. Its size is 9 MB. Same size as in the update tool.
Then this should be not a full backup and useless, do you agree?
By the way, I would like to learn how to edit/combine/fix bios files. Is there a good toturial?
Re: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 BIOS corrupted by HP bios update
The 9MB file is the bios region, its the only part that gets flashed and backed up.The rest of the bios is locked, the flash descriptor and ME region.See the description here: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/gu...lization/31277
You can overwrite the bios region using a hex editor ,such as HxD .https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

Re: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 BIOS corrupted by HP bios update
By the way,
Any body knows why there are two flash chips in this machine:
1) 25Q64FVSIQ near the Nuvoton NPCD315HA0DX
2) 25Q128FVSQ near Infenion SLB9670 and the E16 header marked "ROM RCVRY".
The E16 header is not populated (no pin header soldered).
Could not find any pinout of this E16 2x5 pins header. Pin4 is key.
Other HP models uses 8-pin recovery header with to CS# pins tied together by a jumper. What I could see on videos/tutorial you disconnect this jumper and attach external programmer directly to this header for dump and flashing bios without desoldering.
Any help on this one?
Is it possible to dump the full BIOS without desoldering on this machine. And without harming any other components?
It seems this machine is still under warranty, but HP demands the purchase invoice to correct warranty expiration date. We are seeking to find the invoice. Until now not succeeded to find it.

We are checking the warranty with HP. Until then I prefer to be cautious to not void the warranty.
But anyways it is a good thing to learn about tackling this problem.
There are soic8 clips so there is no need to unsolder most of the times.
Yes, thanks, I am aware of that SOIC8 clip. But with this particular machine, does it fry the EC?
KvnTM told me before in another thread regarding Yoga 2 pro, that using a clip will fry the EC.
Is there a way or a rule to determine, if there are possibilities to destroy the EC or another components by flashing BIOS onboard using clip or direct connect?
Re: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 BIOS corrupted by HP bios update
It will not fry any EC. You just have to use the correct voltage. If it is a 1.8V eeprom, use 1.8V programmer. If it is a 3.3V eeprom, use a 3.3V programmer.
Winbond eeprom with FV in the model is 3.3V. If it is FW instead, it is 1.8V.
