    Failed Seagate ST2000DM001

    Hi All,
I need some advice on a failed hard drive

    Seagate Model: ST2000DM001
    PN:1CH164-510
    FW: CC27

The computer it was in suffered a power spike and the motherboard has gone faulty as well as the HDD. I am not concerned with the computer motherboard.
I have put the drive in another computer and it spins up briefly (1-2 secs)
The new computer does not recognise the HDD.
The following checks have been made on the HDD circuit board

-checked the TVS Diodes on the +5v and +12v rails and they seem to be ok
    - checked the 4 x 0 ohm resisters and they seem ok as well.

Is it worth changing out the HDD controller board and changing over the firmware chip.
As the HDD drive is not recognised by the computer I am assuming the heads have not crashed and there is a fault in the HDD controller board.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

As long as the surge didn't affect the head preamp or cause the heads to touch down on the platters then a replacement PCB and swapping the ROM over should work.
