![]() Hey, new to this forum and totally no skills, so this is a learning experience for me.
I have this laptop, disassembled due to no power whatsoever, pulled motherboard and found a chip burned off the board. I have found schematics that point to the item but would like a visual of the board and cannot find one. The board is LA-9104P, what part is not covered up by a sticker. The missing component appears to be labeled PL601 and the burn is pretty severe, maybe the board is too damaged. Cannot get a good pic to post. The part is TAI-TECH HCB1608KF-121T30 I have nothing to lose so I thought about repairing myself as a learning point. Can anyone assist with a boardview to confirm. I am sure more info is needed but I an stretching getting this far. Thanks for any help, and I realize there are many steps before and after, but I just started with the damage. |

![]() I am not convinced the PL601 is the correct label, even though that is right beside the damage. I saw a picture of a board for sell and the component looked more round than this part.
I am including the best pic I could get, but does anyone have a visual pic of a board showing the missing component? Thanks. |

![]() The component which burned is indeed a coil (SMD type). I am attaching a photo of the board also. In my personal experience, a coil never burn out itself. Usually it's caused by a short circuit on the output side which causes excessive current flow through the coil and as a result the coil burns out. You can either use a SMD coil from a scrap board or simply use a jumper connection to bypass it. However you should clear the short circuit first, if there any. Measure the output side resistance or diode mode value in reference to GND and you will know whether it is the case

![]() I was also thinking something else caused it. I will be working on the other diagnostic steps, hopefully I can make progress.
Thanks all for your replies and assistance ! |
