    NForce 680i SLI Bad Caps 122ck-NF68-B1

    I'm working on replacing some bad caps on this motherboard. Much to my surprise, someone actually pulled a couple of the bad caps off the motherboard before I got to it. Does anyone have one of these boards so they can tell me the specs on the caps in the attached picture. Need size, voltage, capacitence. Thanks.

    They look like 1500uF 6.3V caps to me, but I'm not totally sure.
    I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

    No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

      In one picture I found on Google images, the board uses Samxon GC series : http://home.comcast.net/~lukefencejumper/bakincaps.jpg

      The caps around those two big ones are also Samxon, GF and GS series.

      On other boards, they're Rubycon or Nichicon.

      They seem a bit too large in diameter compared to the others around (the ones between the RAM modules and the ATX connector are 1500uF/6.3 and they're much smaller, at 8mm diameter) so I would guess they're rated for 16v.

      From there, just at the top of that capacitor, it looks like there's a 1 and a part of a 0 ... so I would *guess* 1000uF but it could just as well be half of the 6 from 16v

      You can also see a 0 and probably half of another 0 and the Z - it's a Rubycon ZLH or ZL1 or one of the series that starts with Z.

      It could be a 1000uF, 1500uF, 2200 uF... sorry, can't tell.

      What you could do is measure the diameter of that circle - in both pictures, the cap is exactly the size of that circle, so if that one is 12.5mm for example, you might eliminate some more choices.
      For example if the circle is 12.5mm in diameter then... Samxon GC , 12.5mm , the smallest 6.3v rated GC at 12.5 mm diameter is 3300uF which is unlikely... but the smallest 16v rated GC is 1800uF which seems more reasonable.

      Also, look at the + side of the capacitor, see on the back of the board where the trace goes... if the trace goes straight to the ATX connector, tell us which pin is that.

      If it goes to some chip, say what's written on the chip.

        Caps on the corner aren't taken off. They come off from rough treatment. The two caps on the corner are the same as the ones on the 12v side of the CPU VRM.

            Thanks everyone for your help. I'll throw a couple 1800uf 16v 10x25's quality low ESR caps in and see what happens! They are definately tall 10 mm caps. Putting somrthing that big and tall that close to the corner of the board is just begging for them to get abused.

                  Hello! Much to my surprise someone has posted about this motherboard. Rummaging through my old stuff, I found this board I kept from years ago that was in need of repair. After a physical inspection, I noticed that C15D2 is missing from the back of the board. Without a boardview diagram, I have no idea what this Cap is.. Could anyone shed some light on how to go about finding the value of this cap?

                  This is my first post aside from the introduction post. Please accept my praise to the mega minds of this forum

                    Hi Mike, welcome to BCN!

                    Could you post a picture of the board where the cap is missing? It almost sounds like a small ceramic cap from your description. If that's the case, those are rarely critical. But without pictures and a description where the cap is located, it would be hard to say more. A boardview might exist somewhere, but "issue" here might be pretty easy to figure out without one.
