    Missing pci-e refclk+ asus dual gtx 1070 8gb

    Hello.

Im working on this card and on first glance i noticed
    pci-e refclk+ is open line.

Is this card repairable or a dead core?

    /Ken

Do you see any cut / broken traces from the gold finger to the target ?

How did you conclude that this line is open ? Can you post some pics ?

I measured in diodemode and got 850mv on refclk- and OL on refclk+ 3rd and 2nd pin after notch on backside of pci-e. I followed trace all they way to th gpu and scratched alittle to check if i had continuity close to gpu and yes trace is fine.

I assembled the card allready so no picture unfortunatly

The refclk + / - signals are straight from the PCIe fingers (gold pins) to the target PCIe device (GPU). No parts in between.

If you have confirmed the traces are not broken, can only conclude that the BGA under the GPU that is to mate with the refclk+ is not connected so you see 'OL'.

You can try to reflow the part with flux, hot air and some patience. Worth a try if nothing else is working. Suspecting the BGA is a large mass so pre-heaters are nice to have for the underside + hot air with high heat but approach it gradually so there is no thermal shock. Ideally, a BGA rework station is nice to use for the larger devices like the GPU.

Guessing that the BGA joint is not making contact onto the PCB pad due to past heat experience or liquid damage (corrosion).
