    Sure, why not.
For example: How do think the UPS convert the 12V battery power to 120VAC?
    What is transformer?

actually, no - atleast not always.

the secondary can have a lower breakdown voltage by how it's wound or the type of insulation on the wire.

If the secondary is rated for 24VAC then you are not going to put in 120V AC on that side, common sense.

I knew a guy that would put 120 v 60 hz on the small speakers they used in cheep tranny radios in the 60s . They had a real loud buzz for a secount or two .

actually yes, the secondary will always be rated for what you would be putting back into it, 24v out 24v in, 12 volts out 12 volts in 500 out 500 in. just never put more in than it put out to begin with.

The OP hasn't stated that his intent was to apply the rated secondary voltage TO the secondary. He just said, "Can I use the Transformer in reverse to get some high voltage?" For all we know, he may cherry pick a 6V xformer and apply 24VAC to the secondary in an attempt to generate ~500V on the primary!
