Re: What bad glue can do to the board

    Holy cow!!!!
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

My computer doubles as a space heater.

    Permanently Retired Systems:
RIP Advantech UNO-3072LA (2008-2021) - Decommissioned and taken out of service permanently due to lack of software support for it. Not very likely to ever be recommissioned again.
Asus Q550LF (Old main laptop, 2014-2022) - Decommissioned and stripped due to a myriad of problems, the main battery bloating being the final nail in the coffin.

    Kooky and Kool Systems
    - 1996 Power Macintosh 7200/120 + PC Compatibility Card - Under Restoration
    - 1993 Gateway 2000 80486DX/50 - Fully Operational/WIP
    - 2004 Athlon 64 Retro Gaming System - Indefinitely Parked
    - Main Workstation - Fully operational!

lots of it in RYOBI battery chargers too.
all over the mains wires & choke etc - great fun if it goes conductive!

Do you have any chargers with that glue that's gone conductive?

no, they are so crap that other parts fail before it gets that bad - other than on the heatsink - but there is nothing to short there.

if one was repaired & modded without removing the glue, you could theoretically get to that point though.

Re: What bad glue can do to the board

I found another forum thread about the glue:
            http://www.electronicspoint.com/thre...-boards.61364/
The last message there contains: "You can't get it off until it starts discoloring. I've tried."

The glue on my monitor's power supply is still yellow or light tan. I tried applying 91% isopropyl alcohol with a q-tip for a few minutes but that didn't help me scrape it off with an exacto knife. So I'm looking for more detailed information about how to remove the glue.

How about a moto-tool with a small filing bit? I'm wondering whether to buy and try the following one at Amazon, which costs about $24:
Dremel 7300-N/8 MiniMite 4.8-Volt Cordless Two-Speed Rotary Tool
