Sony PS4 slim CUH-2216A power supply ADP-160FR not working after short in PFC

    Dear forum members,
I'm working on this power supply for ps4 slim, that behaves in a similar manner as other cases but I can't find a way to solve the problem.
When it came to me, externally the ps4 had standby voltage, clicking the disc eject button made the triple beep (without disc inside) and cliking on the power button made the blue power light turn on and then all turned off within 1 second.
When I opened it up, I found these components shorted:
    Q6 24N60M2
IC41 1612A (not really shorted but had a hole on it and all pins measured open circuit but the 9th VCC which measured 522)
    R39 4.7k
    R96 10
    R103 0.035Ohm

I took all these ones from an ADP-160CR which has the same part numbers, even if I'm not 100% sure about the revision of the NCP1612, because in the faulty ADP-160FR the hole was just in the silk code area, but seeing images around the internet, I imagine that 1612A could do the work.

    Now there are no other shorted components, I veryfied IC32 DAP049B, R1, Q3 and Q4 10N60M2, D11 LTTH806LDW, IC31 DAP046, Q9 3N65M6, IC101 MP6922L, Q101-Q102 6N8R2AL, IC151 DNP012AH, D101 FERD2045, and many other, but the power supply behaves in the same manner, 5VSB present but when I short ACIN_DET and ACDC_STBY nothing happens (not even a single jump on 12v rail or VCC that feeds IC41 and IC32) and 5VSB slowly disappears.

    On C1 C2 caps I now have 320v.

No other working ADP-160FR at hand by now, so I can't test if the ps4 has some problems inside, but I looked the mainboard and measured main rails and there are no shorts nor burned components.

If you want, I can write all the measures that I took on different ICs and components...

I know that Q41 is critical in this power supply because it feeds IC41 and IC32 but it's not shorted (well, I didn't unsolder it and measured with external transistor tester, I will do next), it receives 15.10v on collector from IC55 (and feeds D22 then IC31, so 5VSB is created) but zero voltage on base, so on the emitter I measure also zero volt, so IC41 (PFC manager) and IC32 (12v manager) don't receive any VCC.

Well, I'm stuck at this point because I know very little about IC151 DNP012AH, so I don't know how it controls IC55 in order to activate the base of Q41...maybe there is something wrong in another part of the circuit that I didn't see until now, maybe it's not working itself.

Please, can anyone give me some advices?

To run 12v, you need to close + 5VSB and ACDC_STBY.

Thank you @lotas for the suggestion,
I did as you say but the behaviour is the same.
The 12v rail doesn't try to start, not even a little spike, and then the 5VSB fades out.
If I unplug the mains and reconnect them after at least 10 seconds, 5VSB comes on again.

Hello, has anyone a suggestion on how to proceed, please ?
Do you know what tension are active when this power supply is working good, in standby and when activated?
        Such as on IC55, IC151, Q41?

i would get the standby 100% by testing it with a load, maybe a 2w lamp would be good.

            Hi stj,
thank you for the suggestion, I have tried some minutes ago but I don't see any light from the lamp, at the same time measuring tension at the 12v output I don't see any voltage nor little spikes, it's completely unresponsive.
After having shorted 5VSB with AC_STBY, 5VSB and AC_DET fade down and you can restart them only by pulling the mains e reconnecting them again.
At this time, I can't figure out if the culprit is IC151 itself broken or it's because it works good and it feels something wrong in some part of the circuit and it's not driving IC55 (then Q41) preventing 15volt to reach IC41 and IC32.

These are the measures without mains taken on IC151 DNP012AH (red probe to GND, black one on pins, diode mode) and voltages in standby:

            1 751 0.00
            2 750 1.2
            3 338 0.00
            4 161 0.00
            5 752 0.00
            6 751 0.00
            7 676 4.3
            8 678 4.3
            9 677 1.4
            10 676 4.7
            11 751 1.0
            12 0 0.00
            13 204 4.6
            14 746 1.1
            15 82 4.7 5VSB
            16 617 4.6

Do someone have different measures taken on the same working power supply?

I'm sorry @stj, I was too quick to read your words ...
I thought you suggested to test the 12v rail instead you meant the 5VSB.
I tested it as you told me and the lamp lights up correctly, and the 5VSB (and AC_STBY) doesn't fall down.

              What can you suggest next?

maybe something in the main supply is drawing too much power from the 5vsb line.

I'm not an expert on power supplies:

                  ACIN_DET - 4.8V
                  ACDC_STBY - 0V short this with ACIN_DET to start 12V
                  +5VSB_RETURN (GND) - 0V
                  +5VSB - 4.8V

If ACIN_DET and +5VSB are going to 0 after powering on, that could point to faulty DNP012AH:

0.082 seems to be too low. Check components on this line. If they are OK, that is next clue to replace DNP.

Is PFC circuit working (charging C1, C2 caps up to 400-410V) during powering on? Also check all optoisolators.

                    Thank you @sjt and @theManieq .
I will check the 5VSB line, in the meantime I can tell you that voltage on big caps doesn't change when shorting ACIN_DET and ACIN_STBY (maybe because IC41 and IC32 aren't getting 15v), and it's stable at 320v.
I already took some measures around optoisolators (red probe to respective GND, black one on pin), before and after shorting ACIN_DET and ACIN_STBY :

I have working ADP-160FR. Did some measurements and looks like your IC151 is OK.

I have the same standby voltages on the optoisolators and IC31.
No 12V on IC41 in standby. VCC appears after turnig psu on.

As I said, I'm not PSU expert, but if you want me to do other measurements, let me know (here or in PM).

Hi theManieq, sorry for this late reply but thank you for your help and will to measure !

It's very useful to know that 12v from Q41 isn't present in standby, this changes my point of view about the "power sequence" of this power supply .

I have a chance to test the ps4 with a compatible power supply, i.e. the N17-160P1A , the console works correctly so it must be a problem within the ADP-160FR itself.

The two power supplies have different components but I measured a similar value on 5VSB, it's 86 (diode mode) on the N17-160P1A, I think it's due to the D101 diode connected to GND...

These are my measurements on the IC32 DAP049B
