I have an Asus P5GV-MX that uses 2 KZG 1000uf 16V in the VRM circuit.
I also have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 that has 3 KZG 1500uf 1I6V in the VRM circuit.
I tested both these boards with a working Sata HDD and neither of them will start the O/S.
They both boot fine and show the MX Linux first screen. When I press Enter to start the O/S, they hang with a blinking cursor on a blank screen.
If I select the option that shows the detailed loading steps, it shows 2 lines, last of which is "loading Ramdisk" after which the same blinking cursor id shown on a blank screen.
Normally I would see "loading Grub" but it never gets that far.
Am I correct in thinking that the HDD uses both 5V and 12V and if there is insufficient 12V power provided to the HDD it's not going to start up?
Since the 16v KZGs are supplying 12V power could they be at fault?
All of the caps appear perfectly nomal, no leaking or bloating.
The 1500uf 16v KZGs are 10mm diameter. I have Nichicon HN, Rubycon MBZ or Sanyo WG to replace them.
The 1000uf 16v KZGs are 8mm diameter. I have Panasonic FL, Panasonic FR or Sanyo WG in 8mm diameter.
Everything except the Sanyo WG is for sure authentic stock. The Sanyo WG have the correct rubber bung though, so probably OK.
Your ideas and suggestions welcome.
