    Sony KDL-50W800C

Set came in with Audio but no video/OSD. Backlights are lit. I can't see any video using a flashlight. I read somewhere where a blank screen could be a software upgrade problem but customer did not bring the remote to try a upgrade test. Surface mount fuses on the main board seem ok. Any ideas?

Check for about 12 volts on each side of t-con fuse.

Check for shorted caps on the panel boards. Probably no tcon on this model.

Upload good clear pictures of the whole backside of the TV so we can see shwoing the boards what we are dealing with.

There is a T-Con board and the 3A fuse is open. I will replace the fuse and see if it blows. And yes nomoresonys that is the correct T-Con board.

I would check the resistance of the output side of the fuse with ref to Ground and als check the resistance of all MLC Caps first before putting in new fuse.

I put in a new fuse and disconnected the 2 ribbons going to the signal board/panel. The fuse did not blow but the Sony light at the bottom of the set blinked Red ( It never did that before). Then I took the fuse out and tried it again and as before I had backlights and a normal lit Sony light at the bottom of the set. I'm leaning to something wrong on the T-Con board.

But does it blow the fuse if the ribbon cables between the T-CON and the LCD panel are connected?

Does not blow the fuse with the ribbons hooked up. But with the fuse replaced, I can't power up the set by pushing the power button. Take the fuse out and I can power up. I will try to find a T-Conn board and reply.

Disconnect one side of the ribbon cables at a time and try powering on. If one side shows a picture, there is a panel fault on the side that doesn't power up.

Unplugging the ribbon cable that goes to the left side of the panel brings up a picture on the right side of the set. I'll check to see if there are any shorted caps on the source board that is loading down the T-Con.

It's a good half picture? what do you get when you do the other side?

Yes it is a good picture on the side that is hooked up and a bright white screen on the side that is not hooked up. And when I switch the ribbons-my set will not power up.
