Mission Cables USB charging cable "UPS"

I ended up getting one of these things and it appears to be broken.
For some reason, though it passes charging current through just fine, the UPS/battery power does not work. Once power fails on the input, output power fails too.

    The weird thing:

    Input voltage: 5.0V
    Battery voltage: 4.1 V
    output voltage: 5.3V

This should be a real simple device: a li-ion charger and a boost SMPS. The voltages would imply that both sections are working but nevertheless it flops flat when unplugged from a power source. The battery seems to be in good shape by itself.

Unfortunately the parts on this are the typical SMT... any clues on datasheets?

    Monolithic power https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...85&postcount=3

    The 2nd one is MP2617B https://www.monolithicpower.com/en/mp2617b.html

I`m not sure what the first one is.

Thanks yep that makes sense, the MPKD2617 is closer to the "input" so it is the charger. Just need to see where the pins go, but since I do see the 4.1V at the battery the other one is more suspect - unless the MPKD2617 gives a signal to turn the DKJ528 on/off...

Actually it looks like the 2617 could be running the whole show... now I'm totally lost what the other chip's doing.

            Found it,its 14 pins,there`s 2 pins underneath MP3421GG

The marking code is DK ,the J is a yearcode ,the numbers are a lot number

supposedly it was discounted new surplus/overstock but I think it was a reject or a return... At least the li-ion cell is in decent shape, though there's only one ... 2Ah.

Sigh. Was hoping to power my rpi with it...

You could modify it and use a 3 amp hour batteries if you have a case to fit all of it if you can get the battery charging board to work

Re: Mission Cables USB charging cable "UPS"

lots of "if's" ... including working.

Damn I hate SMT. Trying to probe the board with tailoring pins since my multimeter probes are way too big, and even these pins are way too big not to mention having to hold them there while trying to look at the meter...

So far it seems the enable pin of the boost circuit seems incorrect though unfortunately it tracks underneath another component and finding where it goes will be a challenge. This crap circuit seems to be using a 4 layer board no less, not even sure it's necessary. Grr.
