Re: Help with smd capacitor test
You really can not test capacitors correctly this way you at a minimum have capacitor checker at minimum but really need a ESR capacitor tester to do this correctlyComment

Re: Help with smd capacitor test
No capacitor can not be tested correctly just using diode test or ohmmeter
With just a ohm meter or diode test will only tell you if is shorted but nothing else really
Now if you have a capacitor tester that shows you UF value that is better than nothing however it does not tell you if the capacitor is good or not for this you need a ESR capacitor tester for this
This is the ESR capacitor tester that I use

Re: Help with smd capacitor test
You don't need to use that, the cheap "transistor tester" that has been discussed here and elsewhere works just fine and can be had for the same price as the cheapest beer you can find in Systembolaget."The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."Comment

Re: Help with smd capacitor test
Oops, the quick glance on eBay fooled me: the prices where for empty cases etc.
So make it 10 beers then"The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."Comment

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.
Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today.... -
by Fuzzy FixHowdy all I have a 90uF Capacitor 200/275 VRMS and measured the ESR . Reading says 00.3 Ohms and about 1/2 a second later 00,0 and says low ESR (Really No Kidding).
I have checked it on the multimeter and reading is 94.7uF well within soec as ir has a 25% tolerance on it.
Can anyone advise me is this capacitor likely to fail in the near future or still good to use.1 Photo-

by bauto601Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps
The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish.... -
by sam_sam_samI was working on this machine yesterday and I now going to use an incandescent lights instead of a fuses to figure out what the issue is with it blowing control voltage rail but this not the only issue the coolant pump failed the meager test as well as the main motor as well this motor has 12 motor wire leads instead of the normal 9 wires
This metal lathe has a weird motor setup it has a soft start motor with a “Y” and a delta type of motor winding setup and it is not done in the motor pucker head enclosure it is with four different contactors wired in a configuration I have not... -
by CrroseNot sure where to post this but I have an RS-4i sequential stimulator that runs off rechargeable batteries and also has a VL2330 coin cell battery that retains the memory. If that battery doesn't hold charge or connection is bad then the unit will power on and say to recharge. Once it is charged it indicates it is charged but when you turn unit on it powers off saying to charge batteries. I replaced that coin cell battery and now it won't even indicate batteries need to be charged. I have tested the battery pack and it is fully charged at 6V but the coin cell only shows 2.97V which is a brand...
