BlackJack SolderWerks BK5000 hot air station

Anybody else use one of these?
I'm finding that even at minimum airflow, the air is still too high and it's blowing neighbouring components off the board. The heat has to be almost at maximum as well. Just wondering what other people's experiences are of this?

I bought it around 5 years ago and it's served me well but recently I've being doing more SMD work that involves the smallest of resistors/caps and these are a complete pain.

I've tried experimenting with a preheater plate set around 160 degrees and my hotair air temp lowered, but the main problem is the airflow is just a touch too high. Does anyone know if this can be modified? Maybe I can add a simple resistor in line to the fan motor, or change the potentiometer control?

Or perhaps better to replace the station, but what are the (budget) recommendations?

I have the BK4050, no problem with this hot air rework station. work greats

I also have the SolderWerks BK2000+, this soldeing station doesn't work that great. I had to change a bad cap after about a year of usage and now the temperature isn't holding steady. I have replace the solder iron itself and no change. Must be a bad semi inside

Im looking to update my soldering station ASAP.

        Thanks Ecking767,
I'm replacing mine now with budget options which seem to get fairly good reviews. The Atten 858D hot air station and a CSI 2900 soldering station. I'll let the forum know how I get on with these once they arrive.

858D, you can get the D+ with a different branding for £40

Yep, the brand that's on mine is WEP I think, also £40

btw, i think the difference between the + and not+ is the plus has the new handpiece with the blower in it,
the older not-+ has the diaphram-pump in the base.

i have a pump style unit, they are loud.
i intend to get one of those almost-silent fan in handle types soon.
