    Steam Deck 14.3v 0amps

    Hello,

I have this steam deck that has no current draw. I did a visual inspection and found nothing.

No dead short either, but these caps show 20-30ohms.

Any idea where to start? Thank you!

    EDIT:

Noticed something with voltage. Is the component in green faulty?

Looks like thermal paste, I have no idea.

Upon continuing diagnosing, I have found some pins on the charging IC that have 0.2ohms to ground.

      Here is the IC: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...b3d10ef42c.pdf

Is it normal if these pins are shorted to ground? Others are too, but I'll start with these :

      Circled in blue

      Thanks

        the thermal paste is pink,
the white stuff is all over a buck convertor circuit!

I have to scratch to remove it. Do you think it could be metal liquid paste, but then later replaced with pink thermal paste?

          I'll try cleaning with alcohol

            those pins may be o.k. - 7,8 & 10
does this have a battery or just external power?

it's not liquid metal (galium), that would disolve aluminium and probably solder

I have both external power and battery.

Original owner said it stopped charging after changing SSD.

The steam deck continued working until the battery died, because it couldn't charge anymore.

I read online that sometimes SSD can take more current than the chip is rated for, thus frying the charging IC.

What do you think? How can I check if the chip is bad?

                Thanks!

I actually don't have the other one, just the original ssd

i asked because trying the original would be interesting - incase it works again.
