budm, I seem to be the only one active in this thread, but not sure you meant your reply for me? There is no heat transfer pad on the AS15 on this board.

I am surprised that it did not have one on the AS15.
Does the IC too hot to touch by fingers?

Hi budm, thanks for the help. I'll post an image of the board. This one (#3) does get screaming hot, and right away. Too hot to hold your finger on it. The last one I tested (#2) did not, so I didn't think to check this one until you asked.

There is a very simple way to test this chip, leave the set on for 10 mins and if the chips faulty it will be hot to touch, it should run stone cold .

I just replaced the burnt out AS15 on the T-CON board on 46" SAMSUNG, power it up without the ribbon cables between the LCD panel and the T-CON, no heat no smoke, unplug the power and connect all the ribbon cables, applied the power and turned on the TV, in less than a minute the IC smoked!

Tom66, your spreadsheet tool is great! Very helpful!

I'm sorry for tagging onto your thread, but I thought that's what I was supposed to do. Although I've been lurking on badcaps for over 5 years I wasn't allowed to start a new thread. Guess I jumped through the right hoops, now little status deal says I can. Still don't have edit/delete privileges so I can't remove.

Guessing that starting a new thread now with my issues would be wrong, so I hope the mods will see this and advise?

Yes, it is the bad panel that takes out the AS15.
I took the T-CON board out and replace the IC again but install the T-CON on anther SAMSUNG same model and panel without any problem, so now I have spare power supply, T-CON, and Main board for the next repair works.

So, am I correct in assuming that if I do not connect up the ribbon cables (from t-con to panel) I will not damage a t-con board, if I indeed have a bad panel?

Last "used" (supposedly tested by seller) t-con board I tired I did exactly this (no panel connections) and AS15 was screaming hot from the get-go (immediately after power on), and bad voltage readings too. Just want to make sure nothing coming through the LVDC could be taking out the t-con boards.

                              Re: T-CON Check Spreadsheet

I hope I'm not interrupting this thread, but I want to thank tom66 for all that he has revealed about AS15 ICs. It has been extremely helpful to me. I was just given a Samsung LA40B650 with a solarized picture (both picture and menu affected). Shopjimmy's videos assured me that I needed to look at the T-Con, and with tom66's posts I went straight to the AS15-U. It got warm after a couple of minutes running, though I could hold my finger on it without pain. So I checked the VGMA test points:
                              VG1 15.54
                              VG2 15.19
                              VG4 12.88
                              VG6 10.99
                              VG8 10.26
                              VG10 7.93
                              VG11 7.80
                              VG12 7.08
                              VG13 6.87
                              VG15 5.87
                              VG17 11.92
                              VG19 2.93
                              VG21 0.70
                              VG22 0.41

Based on tom66's posts, I mentally connected the warm AS15-U, and the very odd voltage on VG17, and decided I needed a new AS15-U. Unfortunately fate conspired against me - I then bought a heat gun on ebay, and when it arrived found it was defective. Seller would not give a refund until I posted it back to China for evaluation, so while I was waiting I bought a new T-Con board and fitted it. Great picture, no solarization. So, please chalk up one more win for tom66's posts.

If I eventually get the ebay situation sorted out I'll get a heat gun that works and replace the AS15-U on the original T-Con board - but this forum has already made it easy to repair what was previously a throw-away TV. Thanks everyone.

Cells B21 and B22 on the "Detailed..." tab have duplicate cell references to the Input tab. Easy fix but the reference should be sequential.

Question? Is there a generic way to find these test points, particularly VGMAn?

It's weird that VGMA #1-9 puts out the correct voltage but VMGA #10 - 18 puts out 0 volts. I'm guessing this is a definitive result that my T-Con board is bad?
