18v li-ion battery charger. China make it as simple as it get

    Hello,
I got a hand on a 18v li-ion charger for screwdriver, upon disassembling it I got amazed by how simple the circuit board is. But question is is it working or not. I'm not by any mean electrician but would definitely like to get some info. The circuit consists of
    1 S9012 pnp
    1 10k resistor
    1 2.2k resistor
    1 1n4007 diode
    1 red led.

Can anyone put a circuit with these components to make a working 18v li-ion battery charger??????

If of any interest I can sure put some pics for the actual charger and its guts.

    Regards

Is it one that stops immediately when the voltage reaches 4.1V per cell? Because otherwise I don't know a simple charger can charge lithiums.

With just those component, I doubt that it is really made for charging the Li-ion batt, or for really charging any batteries properly (may be for low current charging for NiCad). It should have at least Charging management IC.

Look at the battery pack cell and see if it has a protection board on it if it does not have one ether put one on it or stop using it

I assume the battery contains most of the control circuitry.

I cut open a lap top battery just for fun. It's had about 6batteries and a board with some i.c.s .
P.s. and what look like a thermister burried in the batteries.
