So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..
This looks like the place to find the right answers to all my questions

Hello everyone. Apparently I joined a couple of years ago and didn't follow the initiation routine. My apologies. I'm not an electrician. I am a retiree that dabbles with electronics. Sometimes I'm good. Sometimes I'm bad. But I do learn from my past mistakes. I have brought a couple of Samsung TVs back from the dead by replacing the caps. I am currently looking at a Panasonic PZ77u with the 7 blinking light of doom. Anyway I love this forum and the great information it provides. Cheers!

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

HEY MO - I am new as well. I ran across your website while searching for a fix on my
Plasma TV. This is AWESOME. Sounds like there are some very qualified
technicians on this forum and that really intrigues me.

I am not a computer genius, but I am computer literate. I got my Associates
as an Electronic Technician back when the tube-type TVs were going solid-
state. I went to work with phone company after I graduated and have been
there ever since. So my technical knowledge on TV repairs is not great at
all. The new TVs look like they are mostly plug and play nowadays, so I feel
I could probably work on them with a little help.

Anyway - I am glad to be apart of this and hope I can help somebody out as
                well.

Howdee to everybody. My name is Jimmy. I thought I had already posted an introduction, but it is asking me to please do it again. So anyway - I think this website is Awesome and look forward to visiting with other technicians with different types of backgrounds. Sounds like there are some real smart people on this forum. I am an Electronic Technician, but I have limited knowledge on TV repairs. Look forward to chatting with some of you.

                    Hi all,

although I work in IT,I've been on the cap replacement train for years. It all started not because of my work but because of my hobby, playing the electric guitar.I started changing the caps from guitar pedals in order to alter their frequencies (most of them use simple RC filters). Then I moved on to fixing computer monitors,tv's..you name it.
Looking forward to reading some interesting ideas on fixing things.

                      Hello all.
Just an inexperienced electronics tinkerer that found this site and its fantastic resources. The information I've found already has helped point me in the right direction of fixing my Pany tv. Thanks,

I signed up to see an attachment on a post a friend linked me to and learn from this community.

I have an animated Christmas light display and do some minimal tinkering with electronics, so I may visit occasionally to read up on any information you guys have on repairing electronics and such. I may revisit a problem I had a couple years ago with a computer's audio problem going to an FM transmitter. I suspect a bad cap somewhere on the motherboard that affects audio but not the operation of the computer.

                              I'm a new member!
I work as an electronics installation technician doing mostly high-end custom electronics.
As such, I occasionally get free 'broken' electronics. Some of the electronics actually are broken, which is why I am here!

So far my collection of free items I have fixed include a 55" TV, a 3-zone A/V receiver, and a universal remote/RF base station. I'd like to add a 60" Sony XBR-LX900 to the 'fixed' list

                                          Hello World!

I am a programmer from Greece and I have finally decided to try some of those "replace the caps" suggestions I have found many times as a probable solution to pc/laptop hardware problems.

Hope this forum will be as good assistance as it seems...
