    Quick question

My motherboard has a 1200uf 10v bad cap.

    Can it be replaced with a 1000uf 10v ?

    if not, could I go with 1500uf 10v ?

    thanks

    Re: Quick question

Whats the MB? what are the symptoms?

if you read posts around here yes. (mostly)

you will probably find 6V3 caps can be used
you must if you want long life out of them use quality low ESR types
(which is "not" the stuff you normally find at hobby electronics store)

it better to go a little up then down normally.

      Re: Quick question

It's an etower 400i3, can't find the model no. of the motherboard (haven't taken out of case yet). But i've done everything possible to determine why it keeps having random reboots. There is one cap with brown leakage on top and it is blown out on one side.
Thank you for the quick responce

        Re: Quick question

you must replace all caps of the same brand/series on that board
not just the bad looking one
visual failure is only one type of failure.

it is not a good idea to reduce capacitance
if it was only one cap then ok to reduce from 1200 to 1000 but when there is many caps then the total capacitance reduced too much
1500 is better and what i would do

          Re: Quick question

i use 1500@6.3 for those.it is more common so one less type to stock.
10v was used to get lower esr in a cheap part.

            Re: Quick question

I swapped out 2 caps that looked buldged on top with 1500 10v, and it has been working flawlessly ever since.

If the problem arises again, ill have to swap them all.

            Thanks for your help.
