I never seen any recent eVGA with crap caps like that!

And it looks a lot like the only ones left, for cards from eVGA, were the GeForce 8400s and 8600s (Who wants those things??)

GeForce 7 series was the last confirmed eVGA usage of Sacon caps on their top end versions and middle end versions.

It honestly looks like eVGA knew they F-ed up and stopped using those caps on their top end and middle end versions.
(Starting with 8 series, except for 8400 and 8600.)

My eVGA GeForce 9500 GT has Fujitsu polymers.

How have they not blown up? How could that thing "Work Great!!!" ?! Maybe idling at the desktop

The caps in the top right look like regular Sacon electrolyitcs

Were those ones fun to over-volt or what...

EDIT: I probably could add that I haven't been seeing Sacon on any new products from the last year or so. I wonder if manufacturers are waking up to how horrible they are.

I'm sure a lot of manufacturers don't actually care that they're horrible, but the fact that they're so horrible that when they fail before the warranty ends, they have to fix them.

I had the same thought, but it could just be a reflection of the photographer/camera.

I wonder how long this card was in service, and how many years it's been since it was last powered on - the fan looks surprisingly clean to me.

I thought EVGA had learned its lesson about Sacon FZ caps a few years earlier, when so many of them popped in a year on their FX5200 video cards, especially because EVGA switched those cards to Sam Young caps, which they used later on their 6200SE cards (but their 6200 AGP card had mostly Panasonics).

I've looked at the pictures a few times now and I think they are.

But we will see. I actually did end up buying the video card mentioned above. Yes, it's not much of a good video card these days and definitely not worth the price by itself... but those ventless Sacon FZ caps are priceless! Must have at least one in my "dead collection"

. So when I get it, I'll post more details. I just emailed the seller yesterday and asked if he can ship it in a cheap padded envelope to keep shipping costs down. He's okay with it, so I am just waiting to see how we should proceed before I pay for it.

That one was a case of bad KZGs. But they aren't as "interesting" so I set my limit as $10 total. Seems like the dude that outbid me really wanted it. He's probably quite clueless what he just bought. Oh well, I can't save everyone from buying stuff with busted caps. But the Sacon FZ one was worth it IMO. Plus, I really need to win a fight against those damn FZs

. I already got beated by two GeForce 7600 GTs with dead RAM and possibly GPUs caused by the failed FZ

A little update on this: I just got the video card in the mail today, but it's at my house and not my dorm, so it probably won't be untill next weekend that I get to fixing it.
Also, I want to thank that eBay seller for being so nice and willing to help me out... basically, I asked if he could ship the video card in a cheap inexpensive envelope to save on shipping. He did that and the total shipping came out to something like $3.50 instead of $9.64. He then refunded me the difference. Really really nice of him!
That makes this card about $8. Again, probably too much for such an old card, but I'm looking forward to sighting those ventless Sacon FZ caps. Also, look at these fools:

6 bids for the LE (Lame Edition?) version of this card, totaling $11. Sure the LE has a faster GPU clock (350 MHz vs. 300 MHz on mine) and faster RAM clock (533 MHz vs. 500 MHz on mine).... but look at the architecture! 64-bit RAM and only 2 pipelines - basically half of mine. And to top it off, that video card also has Sacon FZ! (at lest they have vents, though, so no one should be injured when they pop).

I'll probably see what they are connected to first. If in parallel with those FZ caps (which I will be replacing), then I might just leave them. If they are for the RAM and the only caps for the RAM, I might replace at least one of them. I think I've learned my lesson from those e-VGA 7600 GT cards - when the caps on a buck regulator go very very bad, say, hello 12V spikes and cooked coils.

I try to keep my "for parts" motherboard purchases under $15 (with shipping added) if possible. I'll bookmark it, though. Some sellers will eventually drop the price.

Looks like that one just has a bulger on the Northbridge VRM high side. However, the caps on the NB VRM low are probably starting to go too.

That Dell MCP61PM-HM looks nice. Has coaxial digital audio output too! Looks like a full-blown version of an ECS MCP61SM-GM I fixed.

As for the MSI 7058 - look at the missing CPU caps! Why did MSI cheap-out like this? Would have been a great board otherwise. Supports both DDR and DDR2. Yes, you only get 2 slots, but at least you can put in whatever you have more of.

The Intel D102GGC2 is meh. Only 2 slots of RAM. But what's worse is that I see two hot spots from hot MOSFETs. Seems more common the more I look at Intel boards. Their designs haven't impressed me so far.

eMachines ECS HT2000 MCP61SM-GM: that's the same one I fixed in my roommate's friend's eMachines. Coincidentally (or not), it had the caps bulge in the exact same spots. All were some OST variant (but mostly tall, skinny RLX). Good board after a recap. The CPU VRM tends to run quite a bit hot, though.

Moving down that list...
I saw that BioStar 7600 GS and was wondering whether I should get it or the 6200 instead. I know the 7600 GS is many times better... but again, those ventless FZs

. If the seller drops the price, I might bite. The passive cooler is worth it, IMO.

This mb is stable as a rock. I have it as my main daily use PC since April 2010 and never had a problem EXCEPT recapping the KZGs that became bad at October 2011.

The only complain is that it is picky with RAM. I 've had hard time making it boot with some dimms, now it boots without a problem with 1x512MB and 1x1024MB. I think it can't accept 2GB dimms either.

BTW, I don't mean to be eBay link-spamming (and I realise I have derailed this thread myself quite far), but just wanted to share these in case someone here is interested.
