    Horrible fake Sanyo WG

    Those were bought from ebay by a friend (the same guy that gave me a bunch of burnt psus).

    They are definitely fake.

    I tested them with esr micro:

    2200uF 25V --> C: 1840uF esr: 0.11ohm
    2x 2200uF 16V --> 1) C: 1540uF esr: 0.04ohm
    2) C: 2130uF esr: 0.03ohm

    They didn't even try stay close to specs

    Wow, those are terrible, visually and spec wise! They could at least get the correct vent on there if they're going to be faking Sanyo caps

      The bung and vent is a dead giveaway...
      My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

        I would show the link for ebay so we can avoid the seller

          My 1st thought reading the subject was someone shopped on eBay again.

            Why does every knockoff always use Arial as the main font? It doesn't help that Arial itself was a modified knockoff version of Helvetica/Univers.

                Re: Horrible fake Sanyo WG

                And the caps weren't even new, they were pulled from used electronics (short, soldered legs)?!

                I'd say 2200uF #1 is starting to go bad.

                Connect these to a 24V AC source (with at least a few amps potential current)
                and watch them blow ... and record it so we can see xD

                  They were pulled from the burnt psus I have posted last 2 weeks. The guy tried to fix those psus recapping them with fake caps. I let him know about that.

                    Also, the 25V cap is barely bigger than the 16V one. It should be significantly bigger. Also....Does 2200uF 16V and 2200uF 25V Sanyo WG even exist in the first place?! They're not in the datasheet.

                      Re: Horrible fake Sanyo WG

                      This thread made me double check my Sanyo caps, I usually use Panny FR's but I got a couple of sets of some WG's off eBay for a job.

                      All fake.

                      You live and learn, I am new to this.

                        Yeah, I prefer to get my caps from well know distributors, not ebay, because there are so many ripoffs and junk things on ebay.

                                Aww, they didn't even try with those Sanyo WGs on the first post. No that bungz's look any better

                                eBay user ID: pretty much anyone selling from China and Hong Kong... and not only those sellers
                                Use your common sense. If the seller has lots of other typical cheap junk in their eBay store - AVOID!

                                  much of my parts come from surplus deals so i dont have to buy much.
                                  it can be hard to tell whats fake from behind this screen so i avoid buying such parts from ebay.
                                  most everything has an equivalent or better modern replacement available through reputable suppliers anyway.

                                      Hmm, one of the few ebay sellers who lists all their information that is easily accessible.

                                      Perhaps someone here wants to let him know via email that he is selling fake Sanyo caps and point to this thread as evidence?

                                        I did think to drop him a message, could be a genuine mistake but I think both sets were from that particular seller.

                                        Looking at them it is obvious they are fakes, but as I said I have only been meddling with this stuff for a short time.

                                        Will invest in a esr meter at some point to see just how terrible they are....
