    alienware area 51m r1 I7-9700 +vcc_core .6 ohms

i have an alienware area 51m r1 that was working but had a bad keybaord. And now after removing the guts to replace the keyboard, it doesn't power up. the cpu is a removable kind so i checked +vcc_core with and without the cpu to make sure that nothing on the rail was shorted other than the cpu. it measures 0.6 ohms resistance to ground. Is this normal?

Is that the resistance to ground WITH the CPU installed ?

What is the resistance to ground WITHOUT the CPU installed on this power rail ?

the resistance to ground without the cpu is OL.

I believe it is RIP time for this CPU but wait on others to comment.

We have an A1398 which came in with liquid damage and after a few power cycles, now playing dead. The CPU vcore resistance is 1 ohms to ground so fairly sure it is in the same boat as yours.

0.6 Ohms is very likely normal on this board with cpu installed.

            but that's basically ground

Will just add that yesterday, thought macbook a1398 (820-3332) was with a shorted cpu with .9 to 1 ohms to ground vcore resistance.

@mferna14 noted that this logic board demands a battery to boot normally - not just the ac adapter.

That was it..board is booting fine once we attached the battery.

So perhaps there is still hope for your CPU.

how to tell if the platform controller hub (PCH) is shorted?

You can measure datalines on usb2 port to ground the must be in the kohms, that can give you a clue.
