    Belkin N750 DB

I am curious: I have an N750 DB, and when I opened it up to simply examine its internal make-up, I noticed it uses traces on the PCB as antennae, which are connected by those tiny sub-miniature? BNC jacks.

My local surplus place sells those 2.5GHz/5GHz antennas with mini-bnc cable and the appropriate plug to fit in the previously mentioned jacks.

Could I improve the range/effectiveness of this router by Modding the case to house these antennas and plugging them in, instead?

    yes,
    but 2 things.

1 - fit RP-SMA sockets on the case - so you can use different antenna.
the ones with a wire hanging out have a low gain usually.
    you want 4db gain atleast.

2: there are no 2.4/5db antenna.
the difference in wavelength is too great.
    they must be intentinally miss-labelled.

all the 2band routers i'v seen have a seperate antenna or connector for each band.
5ghz andtenna's are almost twice the size on the pcb for example.

have you got a good pcb foto?

No, it's not a 2.4/5db antenna, it says it can do both bands. The gain in db was 2-3db or so per band.

        as i suspected.

        5 antenna
the 2 black ones are 5Ghz,
the 3 white are 2.4Ghz Nway

look at the length of the elements on the white tracks compared to the black ones.

unfortunatly the 5Ghz ones dont use connectors

mind if i ask where you got that foto with the serial port marked?
i was looking for something like that at the open-wrt site but they didnt list the n750

just search n750 db in google images and it will come up. I don't recall if that stuff is inside mine... it looks like they are talking about an internal modem (the site is foreign)

As far as those wires are concerned, I'm not worried if I have to solder new wires on as the originals just appear to be plain wire rather than actual mini-coax, which I would want to replace it with.

            those are micro-coax.

if you dont need 5Ghz then ignore them and just do the white 2.4Ghz ones.

It's Belkin, if you want to improve the range or reliability, throw it in the bin !!

Well, I do have a 300mbps wireless card, and the router I'm actually connected to also supports 300mbps, but it never seems to connect over 150 so I'm assuming I'm not even using the 5GHz side of things.
