Recently a friend of mine bought in a Panasonic toughbook CF-54 with a locked BIOS. I was able to unlock the BIOS with the help of good samaritans here. After unlocking I realized that there was an SSD password. Before unlocking the BIOS, when I switch on the laptop, it would boot into a custom windows 8 with preloaded software without asking for any ssd password. Now I did not know the password and as it was urgent, I bought him a new ssd and sent him his way home. Now I have the old ssd with the password. (Attached the picture). I inserted this SSD into an old dell laptop and it prompted me for the SSD password which I do not know. The ssd does not have PSID to do a PSID revert. I also tried the HDPARM method but it failed. I have the copy of the locked BIOS bin with me (Attached the bin). Is it possible to retrieve the password from the BIOS bin? Is there any other method to unlock the drive? I don't need the data. I just want to make the drive usable again.
Thank you to the guys at HEGE supporting Badcaps [ HEGE ] [ HEGE DEX Chart ]

Re: Can SSD Password be recovered from BIOS bin?
What errors do you get when you try to use the hdparm method?Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.
My computer doubles as a space heater.
Permanently Retired Systems:
RIP Advantech UNO-3072LA (2008-2021) - Decommissioned and taken out of service permanently due to lack of software support for it. Not very likely to ever be recommissioned again.
Asus Q550LF (Old main laptop, 2014-2022) - Decommissioned and stripped due to a myriad of problems, the main battery bloating being the final nail in the coffin.

I followed this guide - https://grok.lsu.edu/article.aspx?articleid=16716
I am attaching pictures for reference. I tried this on a laptop as well as on a PC. Same error in both. Tried power cycling but it didn't work.

I am still getting the same "SG_IO: bad or missing sense data" error
However, I also tried your recommendation now. It says "Missing PASSWD"
The HDPARM erase command requires a password it seems. That's why in all these guides there is a step to set the user password and then run the secure delete command using the user password. I am also attaching another image. Let me know if it helps.

Re: Can SSD Password be recovered from BIOS bin?
You have something similar to mine, which needed quite an effort to achieve

Seeing your PM851 has no PSID on its label (a 32 character code I believe), PSID Revert isn't an option for you
Although there may be faint hope if PM851 is Opal compliant:
https://github.com/Drive-Trust-Allia...ki/PSID-Revert
Failing that, based on my experience, you may need to get back the CF54, put the PM851 back in it, then go through a process similar to that required to unlock the CF54 BIOSbetter to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

In some laptop models there's an hdd master password in one of the DXE drivers, 32-hex pair password, that is used as a recovery to secure erase the hdd.
