Altius A-400F & Aldi Customer Support.

Hi all! ... three years ago almost to the day I was getting dragged round Aldi's by my wife and just happened to spot a 42" tv that I had seen previously at £299 had dropped £100 to £199 and being Scottish that got my sporran tingling ... and though I was very dubious about the no name brand "Altius" the price was too much for me and I found myself at the checkout handing over £199.

I was under no false illusions of what quality to expect and the probable life expectancy of the electronics and so I decided to question the manager about the details of the three years warranty ... after a good grilling at the end of which funnily enough I asked "so if the tv fails in the last week of warranty all I have to do is bring it back here and you will refund or replace? " to which he replied "yes". I remember well scoffing and almost sniggering at his cheek for what I thought was a load of BS to fob me off at the time .................

...................... Anyway it turned out not to have too bad a screen ... the sound of course was abysmal but being a former sound engineer that was easily sorted with a good quality external speaker system and I was actually very happy with the purchase ................

Fast forward three trouble free years .... and you couldn't make this stuff up ... did it fail in the last week? ... Yes! .... not only in the last week but on the very day the warranty ran out ... not a complete failure but a whole LED strip at the top of the screen.

I couldn't believe it ... but I did remember what the manager had said and decided to see if they would honour the agreement .... I did of course decide to phone Aldi Customer Service rather than cart the tv all the way to the nearest shop. So I phoned them fully expecting a complete refusal but I couldn't have been more wrong ... the Aldi customer rep listened to what I had to say then informed me it was the manufacturer's responsibility now (which I thought was going to be the expected fob off) but again I was completely surprised when he then offered to contact them and sort it out for me ... which he did in about 2mins! ... then passed me immediately over to the Altius distributor who just asked for photo's of the fault and screen from different angles to prove no physical damage and also proof of purchase.

So I sent all that off immediately and got an answer back less than 5 mins later offering a full refund and asking for bank details from me to process it ............. I was utterly gobsmacked!!! all sorted in under 10mins! Completely the opposite of what I had expected ...

Anyway ... I now have an Altius A-400F that I can easily repair and give to my son if I can identify the LED strips ... I've tried my best to find any info on the net about them but pretty much drawn a blank ... I've noticed in a few posts here that some of you guys can possibly help identify suitable LEDS from the T-con board ... so I'll attach a pic ... can anybody help me identify suitable replacements? (If you right click the picture and choose "view image" a hi res version is available) ...

Hi Bud ... I haven't disassembled the TV yet ... that pic is of a spare part for the same model ... I don't have room to take the TV apart and leave it lying just now. I was always completely happy with the screen though.

Can you help me identify suitable replacement LEDS? I'll be happy to give a full rundown of the innards when I get space to take it apart ...

You cannot tell what kind of LED strips are use in the panel until you get the LCD panel model number, same TV model can use more than one LCD panel manufacturers.

          Ok I'll disassemble a.s.a.p.

I've never worked on a TV before ... although I have repaired a few laptop screens/backlights ... any tips for disassembly?

Had a chance to get the TV open ... here are pics of the boards and labels ... can you identify the LEDS from these?

If you need any more pics or info just ask and I'll post it up a.s.a.p.

So far I've only taken the back of the casing off ... are these the correct serial #'s or do I have to disassemble further for the correct LED panel #'s?

I did not have the time to search for the spec sheet or LED strips that will fit that CHI MEI INNOLUX panel number V420HJ2-PE6 yet.

Re: Altius A-400F & Aldi Customer Support.

Thanks for the reply bud ... I just wasn't sure if you knew that I'd taken the pics.

I've been searching myself since opening the case ... but can't find any panels/LED strips with a matching/corresponding serial number, some very close but nothing of an exact match and I don't have experience searching for TV panel parts so don't know if any other close matches would be suitable in this case ... so by myself I'm pretty much stumped.

Thanks for your help it's very much appreciated.

Re: Altius A-400F & Aldi Customer Support.

                    Closest I found was "V420HJ2-P01" .... which was for a JVC LT-42C550

The LED strips for it are LED42D15-01(C) 3034201520V

But I'm taking it that could be the completely wrong parts ... I've attached some pics (of the JVC parts) just in case it's of any use.

Doesn't have to be LED strips ... I don't mind replacing all the individual LED's if they can be identified and would be a lot cheaper as I see some of the strip kits can be over £100.

Because of lack of space at the moment I was hoping to avoid full disassembly until actually fitting the replacements but would further disassembly be worth it at this point to get a look at the actual strips that are fitted?

I'll disassemble completely a.s.a.p. and maybe that will give more clues ....

Hi there, did you ever fix this tv and whilst you were taking it apart did you find the LED driver? Just mine has just failed and according to the expert videos it's probably the led driver. I can see a dim picture in a dark room but only a black screen in a lit room. Audio is fine. So form the videos I've watched it seems to be the led driver. Can anyone advise if it's possible to get that part for this tv. I won't be trying to fix it myself I just don't want to get ripped off at a repair shop who already want £100 to look at it. Thanks for any advice. Appreciated

In a dark room when you switch the set on do the backlight flash on momentarily?
Willing to help but I'm no expert.
