    Dell LA-C571P - Won't Charge - Battery 255%

    Hello,

This motherboard reports that no battery is installed, although it will power on from the battery if there is a charge on it. It also will not charge the battery and reports the percentage at 255%.

I have replaced the battery twice with two different (but compatible) batteries and it behaves the same way. When the replacement battery arrives with a partial charge on it, it will power on the laptop, but the charger will not charge it and reports at 255%.

I believe this is a motherboard problem, but I am not quite sure where to look. Could someone help me figure this out?

Here is the schematic and PDF boardview (attached)

Perhaps a new Energizer battery ??

See attached. Meter in DC 20V scale (or similar).

Attach the battery and power adapter.

Measure and post the voltage on the battery SMB lines. There is the SCL (Clock) & SDA (Data) lines used by the SMB Host (Master) to ping the battery (SLAVE) to determine its stats.

255 decimal = FFh (hex). Guessing that the bus is reading back 255 as a value from the battery.

      3.3V on both of those.

Check the VFb (voltage feedback) pins on the charger IC. Use a battery with some charge if possible and check if the same voltage from the battery is reaching this IC.

What are the voltage readings for the battery connector ?

Are the contacts clean and the SMBUS pins are reaching the battery pack ?

Confirm that the SMBUS contacts are reaching the battery connector.

Confirm that the SMBUS contacts are reaching the charger IC.

That is, for both cases, after the resistors between these points of interest.

          Pin 15 VFB: 1.5mV
Same voltage on both sides of resistor PR726

Not sure if you wanted these measurements with or without battery installed. Here are the voltage readings WITHOUT the battery installed.

          01.GND
          02.GND
          03.SYS_PRES - 0V
          04.BATT_PRS - 3.3V
          05.DAT_SMB - 3.3V
          06.CLK_SMB - 3.28
          07.BATT1+ - 0.79V
          08.BATT2+ - 0.80V

And then here are the same voltage readings WITH the battery and AC adapter connected:

          01.GND
          02.GND
          03.SYS_PRES - 0V
          04.BATT_PRS - 0V <---- Changed
          05.DAT_SMB - 3.3V
          06.CLK_SMB - 3.28
          07.BATT1+ - 2.5mV <-----Changed
          08.BATT2+ - 1.6mV <-----Changed

Contacts are indeed clean. 3.3V is reaching Pins 9 and 10 on charger IC.

Well, thanks for your help mon2. You lead me on the right track and I was able to solve it from there. The charging IC was to blame. I just so happened to have a donor board that had separate issues. I took the same measurements on that board and realized it was measuring properly, so I swapped the charging IC from the donor board to my patient board and it is now fixed! Thank you again!

Dell G3 15 3500 - Battery bug (black screen and flashing keyboard backlight)
              by HTR-Informatique
              Hello,

YouTube video of the problem encountered: https://youtube.com/shorts/q7TLNv36LUo

I am a pro and I have a problem that I have never seen despite my 7.5 years of experience on my own and my thousands of repairs, on a customer's Dell G3 15 3500.

On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.

I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.

I changed the battery with a new and original battery.

I also had corrosion/oxidation on the...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
              by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

How can I charge that battery pack?
              by razenxd
              Hello,
it's not a laptop/desktop related question but I figured that someone here will have the right knowledge.
At work we use a few Aldebaran(now Softbank/United Robotics group) Nao Robots which they use some custom 6S li-on battery packs.
Nao robots tends to draw from the battery even if they are shut down, and the BMS tends to be a little aggresive, if the pack stays on a turned off robot for 3 months it's gonna lock and will refuse to charge.

Now, I have noticed a few things.
The "dead" battery, while connected to charger and NOT Charging will...

Acer a515-43 low battery charge voltage

              Hi

              Acer A515-43
              LA-H801P

Fail: Does not charge battery, has low voltaje on connector.

Laptop didn't want to turn on, only charge led blinked.

I found PQB5 (mosfet high battery charger) in short, voltaje in +12.6V_BATT was 19 v ...

I changed it, changed PQB6 too and now battery charger voltage is 4.4V but battery is 3 cell, 11.25v, then is very low to charging.

Laptop turns on without battery and works fine, but with battery turns on and turns off inmediately, I suspect battery bad but I don't know...

Dell Vostro 3400 battery does not charge beyond 55%
              by MahmoudNasser
              Hello,
I have a Dell Vostro 3400 battery does not charge beyond 55%

I tried another file... the battery charge exceeded 55%, but it entered manufacturing mode and it did not count from it.
              - I rebuilt the basic BIOS and Clear Me, but without results
What if the same situation does not charge the battery more than 55%?
              Can someone help me?

The original BIOS file is attached
