I have a Dick Smith 37" LCD TV, Model GE6804. I am using it as PC extended monitor only.
Problem is while watching tv, I hear a semi loud click(like a electrical breaker tripping due to overload, just sound like it but no actual electrical overload), then screen is covered with green or pink. I can still see the original picture image but overlayed by green or pink. See attached images. Pink.jpg is what I see, and Normal.jpg is before green or pink screen, What I captured was pink screen, but about 80% of time it's green and 20% of time it's pink.
Then each time I either press power button(under tv) or unplug from outlet then re-plug in. Then normal picture returns. At first I thought physical separation from outlet will do "hard reset" and better than pressing power button under tv, but both option gets me back normal picture.
Now this problem been happening for over several months. (Before this I had the tv for over 10yrs and NEVER a single problem). At first few times a week, then daily then several times(sometimes over 10 times and other time under 10 times) a day. Then few time nothing for entire day. Sometimes happens ever few minutes for 5-10mins, the other times nothing happens for hours or even over 10-15 hrs. I would IF it was something overloaded or heated, then as soon as power is back on problem will surface again. Very inconsistent, this hard to troubleshoot.
Like I said each time I turn off tv then on again, and 100% of time back to normal picture.
So I am not sure if something is overloaded? overheated? which triggers green/pink screen. Then after I turn tv OFF/ON then back to normal like tv was reset, or during OFF something was reset.
One interesting observation about green/pink screen. When I do a print screen, green/pink screen is not captured, It's normal picture, even though LCD screen is covered with green/pink. So somehow green/pink is not part of normal picture coming thru T-CON or main board(??). Green/pink is overlayed color on top of normal picture.
More about "CLICK" sound...it's followed by constant hissing sound. But when I disconnect tv speakers (by taking off back cover), no "CLICK" sound or hissing sound. Screen just turns green or pink covered. So whatever is triggering my problem does not create it's own sound but effects tv sound thus I can only hear it when speakers are connected.
I NEVER opened LCD back cover before till now. But fast learner. LOL.
Took off back cover, Capacitors are all flat, none are bulged. Transformers look fine(tapped it) and nothing happened. I left back cover off and watched TV till green/pink screen happened, I can not hear any sound at all,
Now I don;t have voltmeter, so I never measured any voltages.
BUT could it be that voltage is dropping thus shuts off or effecting chip? capacitors? coils? creating green/pink then when I unplug or OFF power button, everything is "reset", then back to normal.
What is most puzzling about my problem is it doesn't stay green/pink screen status, It always go back to normal after unplug/power OFF/ON. SO hard to isolate the problem.
So I spoke with several LCD repair shops, few online LCD forums(I couldn't find many online), and YES I GOOGLE searched under just every wording that I can imagine and heard about. NOTHING. All seem to be a permanent problem, then after fixing picture back to normal. NONE "reset" like mine after unplug/power OFF/ON. In fact NOBODY NEVER heard of my problem, nothing even close.
Another thing, I turned ON tv without PC connection. I couldn't duplicate green/pink but only when PC is connected. So somehow LCD signal is being effected.
Again, green/pink colors are overlays NOT part of original picture. I seen some LCD problems where whole picture is effected by green or some color, so green is embedded into LCD picture. But my problem, green/pink is "Overlayed" on top of normal picture, as evidenced by screenshot (it do not show green/pink but only normal picture),
It could be many things, power board, main board, T_CON, etc???
So anybody go any ideas? I hope I gave plenty details. But ask away for more.
BTW I tried replacing LVDS cable from main board to T-CON. Still green/pink.
And YES, I unplugged and re-plugged in every connections
Maybe this is how it is, and NEVER become a permanent problem such that I can not watch this TV again.
OR I just keep OFF/ON power (then back to normal picture) and keep using my tv. "New Normal"? LOL
Also I learned a LOT about LCD TV during this process.
