Open frame lcd monitors 19" - in gaming machine Novomatic

I repair 10-20 this open frame lcd per day. 95% problems is bad capacitors Evercon LE, Jackcon low esr. This lcd icluded vga-video PCB Winmate types R7X410, R5U210, R7X120,*Z5U120 and other. In this pcb used low cost taiwan capacitors with live time 1000hours/temperature 105 celsius. In nonstop function this caps blow/damage after cca 1.5-2years, or if using noname caps (brand "S.Y" is live 5-7months).
In repair this monitors i use caps Teapo SY lifetime 5000hours/105 celsius. After repair monitor with dis caps livetime 6-7years.
4% problems with monitors is bad smd fuse 3.15A/2A orj broken secondary coil in light transformators in pcb light invertet.
1% problems is bad lcd panels AU Optronics model M190EG01 M190EN03 or Chimei M190E2 or M190E3 - short circuit in DC-DC converter - short ceramic smd caps and after bad fuse.

When I was like twelve, I used to work repairing arcade control boards (control as in joystick, buttons and the like, not motherboards/main), changing boards and power supplies. They were the usual CRT repair/exchange, but I guess my idea of that kind of shops stayed like that in mi mind. Now that you mention the slot machine repair shop, it makes sense.

          You repaired control panels.

I still to this day repair, restore, un-convert back to original, and collect arcade games. I have 15 mint restored machines in my home and currently have 5 or 6 out in the garage that i am repairing for other people. A lot of people (not me) like the lcd's in there games. and those open frame lcd's are about $450 with the mounting kit from happ controls. For the most part I stick with old school Electohome and Wells Gardner monitor chassis, recap them, swap out the crt with ones i get out of old tv sets. All of my friends know to stop and pickup 19" tv sets out of the trash when they see them. It it turns out to be an non compatible tube i can still just dump it again.

Sorry for mistaking the name. That's why I put a description, as things are lost in translation Spanish->English.
Back then where I used to live we had the regular arcade machines, but most of the machines were self-made arcade cabinets with (depending on the era) an Atari 2600, Coleco Vision, Atari 5200, NES, Super NES and the last project was a custom system developed in Mexico called FELEC, that was similar to a SNES. What people do sometimes this days, open an xbox/xbox360 controller, solder in switches and install it in cabinets inside an arcade cabinet for the so called MAME cabinets, we did 20 years ago, and for a living. The use of the systems was limited (like the game machines here in USA), you need permits and a lot of requisites were to be present for you to get a license to work this kind of "arcades" . Then they removed ALL the requisites, everyone got some machines, and they killed the business. Only the largest owners survived (Walmart-like killing small business). I still maintained some cabinets, but I lost interest.
But I'll enjoy working on a place like that (I just applied for a job as Slot Technician in a near Casino) a few days ago.

Re: Open frame lcd monitors 19" - in gaming machine Novomatic

In a previous life I serviced standalone word processors (before PCs became available)
They used either Electrohome or Motorola monochrome open frame monitors.

The Electrohomes were solid, had the odd bad HOT, the Motorolas had chronic bad solder on one of the transformers. Ahh the good old days.

Other techs would schlep a new monitor out to the client site, I'd take a soldering iron and a few transistors.

The power supplies were Way over-capable. Torodial transformers big caps and linear regulators, almost never failed.
36 Monitors, 3 TVs, 4 Laptops, 1 motherboard, 1 Printer, 1 iMac, 2 hard drive docks and one IP Phone repaired so far....

Hi, I have repaired many theese monitors replacing bad capacitors, mosfets, dc/dc convertesr etc. But some of them especially these with Z5U120 board have bad SyncMOS chip. I have SM89516C25j PLCC44 blank chips. Also have BeeProg and Wellon programmers but I am not able to read the content of the chip to use it for programming the blank one. Probably it is protected from reading. And my Question is, wheather is there a possibility to gain somewhere the software for SyncMOS chip in Z5U120 board or not. Thanks for reply. B.R. Karel

Try to read the contents from one of a working Z5U120 board?
Or look up the datasheet of the SyncMOS chip (EEPROM ?) to see if it has any read/write protection pins.

Z5U120 we have, but all Syncmos cpu on this version is locked against reading firmware.
Did you meet with the problem of fluctuations in the 1.8V on the board R7X410 and R5U210?
                        How to solve it?

This Syncmos is clone of Intel's CPU MCS-52 family. External EEPROM not solved problem if is damaged firmware in CPU.
And if I know where, if the flash memory is locked against reading, so do not do anything with it ...
