How do you bench test this type of USFF Desktop Power Supply

I have a computer that has this type of power supply

I think of making a small bench power supply out of one of them

I can get them from eBay used very inexpensive and it does have as many wires to it and it is easier to recap

The highest wattage one I have seen so far is 200 watts

Dose anyone have experience with this type of switching power supply that can tell how to turn on the power supply on the bench

Like an ATX power supply, green wire to ground.

you apply 5v to the green wire to turn it on i think.
unfortunatly it does not supply 5v so you need a voltage regulator or a battery!

i know it alternates between 5v and 0v but not sure which way is to turn on.
i have a similar supply in bits here - they are a pain!

The paperclip trick should work i.e connect/short the green wire to the black wire. But some PSU dont power on till you connect a load to the supply even after shorting the green to the black. So connect a load to the power supply and then see.

Here are some links that should help

          1. Pinout of 8pin DELL PSU connector

          2. Using a 8pin to 24pin converter to get standard power connector

          3. DIscussion on powering on a DELL powersupply without Motherboard

Hmm...well. I guess the said PSU has not been acquired and it would be difficult to see the board to make guesses at how to power it up. Then again, my most recent PSU attack was a server PSU power up -- I could NOT figure out how to turn it on from the edge connector. I found the 5VSB however but shorting each of the pins to GND did not power up the supply.

I had to backtrace the PSU and found a few hacks to the control board to force the supply to turn on. I suspect the PSU needed I2C control to turn it on.

I doubt this is the case with this PSU in the OP, but some things are uglier than others...

I did finally figure out how to use this switching power supply with out the mother board it just and atx power supply just use the power on wire to ground and it powers ON
