    Toasty -

Thx for the pinouts. extremely helpful.

Will jumpering the psu without loading it cause any issues, do you think?
Do I keep it shorted to turn on or is it a toggle?

Oops... Yes, I did indeed mean 'I'... I meant the cap that was shaded black on the diagram.

I didn't have any intention of touching H since on most of the Japanese forums they mention that it appears to be functioning normally. well, actually, nobody said they'd been forced to change it in order to get their supply working, at any rate, which is similar if not the same thing.

Also, I notice that it seems to be the lower voltage caps that are failing.

RAN - Exactly. I had 1 light at first. but no power on. Then I replaced ABCD & E (I forgot to say E in the first post).

it started working at this point, powering on and off on demand.

An hour later I replaced G and I (not H). That was when I got the "sticky" sensation and knew I'd discharged the capacitors across a different track.

Damn shame that heat conducting materials also tend to conduct electricity, isn't it?

I put her back together, but nothing. at all, not even the first LED.

I hope Toasty is right and that it's the 5.1 v circuit and not the MOBO that's been fried.

    Time to test some voltages.

Toasty: do think either of these two chips are likely to have been fried? They're too small for me to replace.

Thx for all the info, Toasty and Ran!

    Craig.

      No.

      >>Do I keep it shorted to turn on or is it a toggle?<<
      Yes, keep shorted.

You should have the 5vsb when it's plugged in and NOT jumpered on.

Until you post some voltages, I'll reserve comment.
