Hi, I'm very new to this electronics game. My experience so far is replacing a capacitor on a flat screen tv and replacing 3 diodes in a monitor. So I'm 2/2 in my attempted fixes career
Equipment: Cheap soldering iron; digital multimeter.
There was a power cut in my house and when it came back on, my Dell 2408 WFP 24" monitor had no picture, just varying colour lines and (I think) a mainly green screen, which eventually went black.
I can't see any obvious damage to the boards, but one thread on this site suggested the shunt regulator at position IC 701 are prone to damage. I was planning to try changing that first, but I cannot find an exact match to the one on my board. The numbers on mine are KA 431AZ J20. I can find a KA 431AZ 1103 online, but that ships from China and takes ages, or I can get a TL431 or TL431A from the UK. So I have a few questions:
1. Do you think it's worth just changing this part first?
2. What do the numbers/letters refer to?
3. Would either of the replacement parts I mentioned be a suitable replacement?
I did check the only 2 fuses I could see on the board and they seem fine i.e. they have continuity.
Thanks in advance for any input/suggestions.
