Dell Precision 5530 VRM temp sens

Hi. I have a "problem" with my Dell precision and with other pc also and I wish I could understand.
The problem is the pc goes often in "Power Limit Throttling". I read on web that the problem is coused by the VRM not cooled (like the xps). I tried to pad the cpu and gpu mosfet bridging them with the heatsink but nothing changed.
I have a doubt, how the temp sensor works?
And how can I identified the sensor chip? In this laptop but also in general. Meaby now the mosfets are cooler but if the sensor can't detect it the problem will persist.
Thank you so much. I'm learning a lot from you!!!

Review this thread to see if it helps:

Are you using the original power adapter?

Did this laptop function ok before? What is the history of the unit ?

All original. The laptop works fine but when it's stressed goes in throttling limiting the cpu freq. It's a common problem for xps and precision (reddit has many threds on this topic).
The beahviour is the same from the first day

How much is the PCH's temperature?
How much is the temperature when you touch the VRM coils?

did u scope it to check if all phases work?

The PCH is between 71 and 79° mesured with hwinfo64. What is the PCH?
Where can I find the vrm's coils temp?
I padded just the vrm mosfets

I think all work. The power limit throttling is a common problem for the xps (and precision)

you can guess the big coil's temperature by touching it.
PCH is a big chip on the mainboard. Install a small heatsink on it.

Ok I will do it but i don't understand how the temp chip works and how can i recognise it/them.
79° is high for the pch?
                    The pch is the chipset?
How can I install an heatsink if I can block it? I can just pad it bridging with the chassis. Same problem with the coils

Re: Dell Precision 5530 VRM temp sens

PCH is fine, don't mess with it.
Cooling system is just clearly insufficient on this laptop when under max load with high-spec parts, nothing you can do about it. Bad design from Dell. If you need a high-perfomance machine buy a desktop not a laptop. And if for some reason it really needs to be a laptop (in general it doesn't), buy a 7000 series not a 5000.
Having a gap under the laptop significantly helps, still not enough if ambient temp is high though. Maybe the cooling stands with fan could help, even though I always found that completely dumb.

yes, PCH is the chipset. Bridging it with the chassis is fine.
Making the PCH cooler is good. However, as piernov said, the problem mentioned in Post#1 is related to the CPU and its surrounding VRM.
you can touch the CPU heatsink and the coils near the CPU to approximately guess their temperature.

I point my thermocamera against the zone. The vrms reach about 110°C... But both in xtu and hwinfo64 i don't find any Temp value for the VRM. In hwinfo64 i see VR VCC temp but it reach just 65°C.
I will try to bridge them to the heatsink with a copper plate.
My answer stay. Where is the vrm temp sensor and how it works?

Is this 110'C at high load or low load on the CPU?

                              At full load under cinebench

you should remeasure the VRM temperature when CPU is idle.

Just to know, why I have to check it in idle? The problem appears at full load

the idle temperature indicates whether the VRM is fine or defective.
