DELL Vorstro 3550 Battery not detected

Dear all,

I have recently purchased a DELL 3550 which works fine, but didn't detect the battery or charge it.
Then I ordered a new one but still the battery isn't detected..what can I check?

The strange thing is that the unit does run with the battery and without charger, but the battery isn't detected, also in HWInfo.

Maybe SMBus Problem? How to check it?

when you connect the AC adapter, does the battery charging Led start any activity on the laptop's body?

no, nothing.

AC adapter's wattage is correctly detected in DELLs test programm, so adapter and detection of adapter seems fine. I tested with 3 different PSUs: 65W, 90W and 180W.

First make sure there's no physical damage near battery connector.
Measure voltage on SMBUS data and clock lines on the battery connector with and without battery connected.
And measure diode mode on the same lines with all power disconnected.

Pull out the schematics, find battery connector and you'll see which pins are concerned.

This might not be the case with you, but I had something similar on an E6540 I just fixed.
It worked fine on battery and on power and both together, but wouldn't charge the battery.

I found the CD3301 (power management I believe, PU800 or PU801 I think) burned on two pins. Replaced it with a new one, almost losing two traces near the damage in the process. Tentatively added some wire to assist those and much to my surprise, it works like a charm!

If you're willing to open it, it's worth eye-balling everything.

It's probably I/O problem.If charger IC is ok then check I/O both scl and sda signals at charger IC communicates with I/O
