How do I wire this thing up?

Hi guys

I ordered this LED strip heater from china and it turned up with 2 wires sticking out.

Im assuming I need to extend the wires and put a plug onto it, but not sure if it matters which wire is positive and which is negative etc?

Has anyone bought one of these and knows what the deal is?

I tired asking the seller but english wasnt his first language and I didnt get very far.

Can you provide the purchase link to said item? There should not be any polarity in connecting the wires.

As per listing it runs on 220V AC, therefore no polarity. Its also a good idea to ground the exposed metal.

Im a bit simple when it comes to this and not really sure what that means.

Im in Australia and we have 240V. hope that doesnt matter.

I assume that I run one wire to the positive terminal on a wall plug and the other to the negative terminal?

I tried to word this so i didnt sound like a total idiot.... But couldnt

220 - 240V AC should be fine.

1 wire connects to the Live(L) wire(red or brown), the second wire goes to the Neutral (N) wire(Black or blue). Do confirm the color code before connecting anything. I based the above on a quick google search for australian code (https://electronics.stackexchange.co...-standard?rq=1).

The ground wire (Yellow/Green) should be connected to the chassis/frame of the metal case (From the attached picture, the standoff/legs are screwed to the metal plate. You could use that to attach the ground wire). Although not critical to the proper functioning of the heater, grounding adds a layer of safety.

It appears from your photo that you’ve got your feet installed upside down. I’ve got one of these plates. Works very well but the heating side is the flat side of the plate.

No, it's correct, the heating element is in the middle and having it this way up allows for better precision.

Yep, ground that plate for safety, but before doing anything else you need to check the resistance between the plate and the power wires to make sure it does not show any leakage resistance, I would plug it into ground fault protection outlet when I use it.

Yes, you loose the precision of the narrow heating strip if you have it the other way up. Depending on the vendor depends on which way up they have it in their photo but the Shopjimmy LED hotplate has the narrow bit on the top.

Connect it to 220v. I have the same. It works fine.

I believe budm meant something like a GFCI outlet or a normal wall socket protected/connected to an RCD.

yh thats what I have too!
Handy little thing and dirt cheap.

Lasting well too!!!

Makes led swapping so much easier.

Not bothered to ground mine so no doubt will get a nasty jolt from it one day but until then, on it goes.
