And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

I'm probably spending way too much time looking through forums and pages online to try and fix my TV. My wife told me we should buy a new one but my obsessive tendencies and stubbornness are keeping me going!

I've always thought I was good with electronics and 'fixing things' but my recent experiences suggest otherwise.

I'm hoping that I can get some expert opinions from the people who know lots more than me on Badcaps.

              Looking forward to it!
              Nick

Hi, I'm from Quebec, Canada, have an electronic technician diploma from college from a time where disscrete logic where mainly done with 45xx and 74xx, from there learned uC on 6805 and 6811 and with the years climbed the ladder up to modern ARM cortex M4 embeded system developpment.

For work I've been some years in IT, others as technician in a telecom manufacturing plant, and some others as project manager for high power system design. Presently I mostly do embeded system developpment.

Google got me there when I was looking for detail on a screen repair, it look like a great community, as I activated receiving email from others user do not hesitate to contact me.

                            Regards,
                            Jean-Francois

Hello everyone, my name is 12_Centuries and I'm an IT guy from Columbus. Ohio. I'm currently a web developer but I've been a system builder and networking guy for many years also.

I honestly don't know very much about electrical engineering beyond a very layman's point of view, although I am an expert at taking things apart, poking the insides with a pointy stick and then searching the internet for any clues as how to fix things.

I have no problem building a system from scratch, but if it comes down to reading schematics, forget about it.

I came here to seek some help on fixing a TV that was given to me. I will post about that in the appropriate forum. Thanks for listening!

Hello all! I'm the new guy now. My current status is journeyman electrician in Oklahoma City. I have been in this field since 1993. I spent 4 years in USMC as a helicopter mech right out of high school 1985-1989. After my discharge and not finding the work I desired I thought I would give the reserve a try.
So I retrained for radio repair. While in training and back on active duty all was good. Reserve life was not. So I had a short year of electronics exposure and wish I had more.

My profession is electronic development and Notebook reparing.
I have to admit, that I registered only for one reason: downloading an attached BIOS-file (thanks to Polytec, for providing it!). But it looks, that this place is really worthy to stay here ... :-)
A nice community and a high knowledge here!
I hope, also I can help someone at some time ...

When I am a semi-retired cop and op, but I also fancy myself a bit of a technical guy. I am a General Class Ham, but am not particularly strong on component level repair...

BUT, I want to change that! Which is one of the reasons I am here. I am pretty good on PC repair, and I am a bit experienced with modding and upgrading Panasonic Toughbooks!

So, nice to meet you all!
