Default Weird outer shell markings/corrosion (?) on polymer caps

Just saw this on another forum. On some caps it looks like a plastic coating is peeling/falling apart.

Does anyone knows what's up with those caps?

Looks like some kind of insect damage, The aluminum is not touched, it is just the coating that is being eaten.
