He has a pioneer SA 608, matching Tuner (TS 608) and Tape deck (CT F600) and a pointless timer (DT 400)...late 70's early 80's from my research
We're going to try to focus this as a Turntable setup (his turntable is a seemingly cheapo from like 10 years ago...but it does have a phono out), which is at least comforting because the amp has a phono input. It also had a USB port, looks pretty cheap
I'm trying to go for an all analog here. What is the likely problematic caps? Power? I've never dealt with amps this old and of this type. I replaced them in a cheap yamaha of mine a few years ago when it started to get ac hum leaking into the amp
Should I look for anything before I even plug it in and turn it on? Of course i'm going to look it over for obvious bad caps up front
I'm also wondering about vintage speakers. Vintage 60s-70's refurbished pioneers look are expensive but he has money. Should I go ahead and just get new ones? Which ones would balance with the 608. Other 80's 90's brands would be better?
Previously (at his last house before the divorce), I got an avantree BT transmitter hooking up to that turntable (which has a photo/line switch) to those RCA ports to his new fair priced new sony reciever, hooked to actually cheap speakers that came with the turntable (shelf speakers). Pretty unbalanced. 100W amp on some 15w speakers.
At his new house, he has the same amp but a set of klipsch reference 5.1 that cost about 1k. (https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Refer...dp/B08WPPL38V/)
I initially had him get this amp to upgrade
https://www.amazon.com/YAMAHA-RX-V4A.../dp/B08CKGYLNS
but it came with a cracked face, so he took it back and is going to use his old amp (Sony STR-DH590). I don't think he'll get much out of that amp
