Samsung LN32A450 LCD TV popped when plugged in

    hi
my neighbor gave me this LCD tv...he said would not power on

i plugged it in and immediatley heard a pop and smoke so i unplugged it

took tv apart and saw visually that 1 blue cap was fried...see photo photo is stock photo from shop jimmy

anyone know what would cause this and can i just use a standard capacitor as replacement?

the part is circled in red..see stock photo

i believe the initial no power on is due to a different bad cap that is bulged but not sure why the blue cap fried as soon as i plugged tv in...

That is commonly failed snubber cap, rated at 1KV, you should replace it with 2KV cap rating.

You need to remove all those bad brown glues, they are conductive.

That is high Voltage section, so the glue finally conducts enough to cause problem, nothing new about those bad glues, it is also corrosive and it will eat component leads and copper traces.

ok thanks..just find it odd why it did it when i plugged tv in..just coincidence? that after 10yrs of use.it never fried....tv then stopped working due to bulged cap and guy gives me tv and on that exact time when i plug tv in it pops..??? seems a little odd but from what you are saying it could be right ...very odd though as far as timing is all im saying...thyansk for the link neil and bud seems there may be more issues with this board then initially thought....replacing the blue cap more than likely will not fix the issue..i will c if a replacement board can be found under$20..i do not spend more than $20 on tv repair anymore cine tvs are worthless nowadays

Replace those 2 caps, clean up the glue and give it a go.

Just check the resistance of the blue cap to see if it is actually shorted out or not, the failure mode of those ceramic caps are shorted circuit.
But you must remove all the glues first, replace the blown jumper wire, check the MOSFET's on that heatsink to make sure they are damaged.
