    FX505GD Realtek ALC233 not working

    Hi all,
    I repaired a FX505GD motherboard with a dead PCH.
Today the laptop is working perfectly, but the sound is not working.
Seems like the ALC233 is not detected.

    I checked :
    - The 3VS_AUDIO, 5VS, 1V5 coming in the ALC

    I replaced :
    - 2 times the PCH with a new one
    - the ALC233

I attached the schematic + boardview

Btw, U mean Audio IC is not detected?? Or is it detected properly but no sound output?? Which one is correct??

        Pin 1,20,36 : 3V
        Pin 26,41,46 : 5V

Not detected at all, sound with a red cross in the taskbar

If supplies etc are ok to the chip, then check HDA_SDI0, HDA_SDO, HDA_SYNC, HDA_BCLK and HDA_RST# lines for continuity to R2388, R2301, R2302, R2303, R2304 respectively.

I had same issue on an Acer today (go figure). Problem was multiple open test pads from corrosion (which Asus also use) and an open track for the bitclock.

I have the clock on BCLK, have some pulse on SYNC, have the RST too.
Problem is on SDO, SDI0 no voltage.
All the resistor are ok at 33 Ohm.
I have no data on these lines, but it is connected to PCH, and I put 2 new PCH...
I changed the EC too because it is connected to a diode PCH_FLASH.. *
              No voltage on PCH_FLASH too..

R2388 appears to be a test pad so should be a short so check it. Did you check for continuity from the resistors to the audio IC pins? Where did you source the PCH's? Are they donor's off old boards?

All resistors have the good value.
And the continuity from resistor to IC audio is 2 ohm.
                  R2388 is shorted yes
The first PCH was from a donor, and the second PCH was a brand new PCH.
I have lot of donors, like FX505DD

Yes because I had slow boot before ASUS picture.
With the clear ME slow boot is deleted but problem is the same

Thanks, I tried 3 different bios.
Maybe I have to mod it ?

HDA_RST# is active low. If this line is LOW, the ALC233 will remain in reset state.

What is the voltage on HDA_RST# ?

Do the donor boards from where the PCH was extracted offer the same ALC233 audio codec ?

                                Hi, HDA_RST# is at 0.5V
Yes I replaced it 2 times with ALC233 from this donor and other donor

With this voltage on HDA_RST#, the chip is parked in RESET and will not work.

Check for the presence of a pull-up resistor on this line. Often, reset lines are open drain signals and must use a pull up resistor to pull this line high.

The pull up resistor or the voltage on the pull up resistor may be missing.

Sorry for being late, had to do computers.
There is no pull up for the HDA_RST#, but a pull down names R2397. And the value is good.
I did a bridge to a 3.3V directly to the HDA_RST#, but still the same...

Careful here, if the line is open-drain. So this means that an external signal can drive this line LOW but there is no logic high. An external pull-up resistor is required to pull-it high.

If you bridge this line directly to 3v3, then you may have a collision of the pin driving the pin LOW and then your external hard-strap to 3v3. Not a good combination.

If you cut the trace that is driving this trace and then take the floating HDA_RST# pin (due to the cut trace) and strap it to 3v3, this should be ok.

Just asking on what the voltage level is on this pin after the hard-strap. If possible, check it with a scope which should show a pulse LOW and then HIGH if all is well - this should be the case, without the need to strap it to 3v3.
