    STR2A153 vs STR2A153D SMPS IC

The device I want to replace does not have the 'D' suffix, but the replacement I have in my parts drawer does have the 'D'.

I can't find any specific datasheet on the net for a 'D' variant. Do you reckon it's just slightly spec'd up and hence the designation: D?

    Here is the data sheet

    https://datasheetspdf.com/mobile/938...ken/STR2A153/1
    9 PC LCD Monitor
    6 LCD Flat Screen TV
30 Desk Top Switching Power Supply
10 Battery Charger Switching Power Supply for Power Tool
6 18v Lithium Battery Power Boards for Tool Battery Packs
1 XBox 360 Switching Power Supply and M Board
    25 Servo Drives 220/460 3 Phase
6 De-soldering Station Switching Power Supply 1 Power Supply
    1 Dell Mother Board
    15 Computer Power Supply
1 HP Printer Supply & Control Board * lighting finished it *

These two repairs where found with a ESR meter...> Temp at 50*F then at 90*F the ESR reading more than 10%

1 Over Head Crane Current Sensing Board ( VFD Failure Five Years Later )
2 Hem Saw Computer Stack Board

All of these had CAPs POOF
All of the mosfet that are taken out by bad caps

Yes, thanks, I had the datasheet. But it makes no mention of a 'D' variant, hence why I was asking around if anyone had any experience with this SMPS IC?

In the repair I'm doing it is used in a Pioneer Receiver VSX-529. The IC is rated at about 35W output. It directly drives the switching circuit - no external mosfet. I gather it is used in an auxiliary supply which must power the logic circuits etc of the receiver?

On other versions the `D' stands for auto restart on OVP, TSD Operation

          Hi RJ,

You might need to spell out those acronyms for me?

And in terms of a SMPS, what does auto restart actually mean? If mains power was lost, and then came on again, I would have thought any SMPS would start up again. So I'm obviously missing something?

I am looking at the STRA3A200 datasheet

− Overvoltage Protection (OVP) : Latched shutdown or
            auto-restart
− Thermal Shutdown (TSD) : Latched shutdown or
            auto-restart with hysteresis

Thanks RJ. I think that does explain it most likely. "Latched Shutdown" is abnormal condition keeping the SMPS switched off; auto-restart where it does exactly that after the condition is removed.
