    Asus GL552VW Rev. 2.0 - USB-C Shorted

    Hi,

I have an Asus GL552VW Rev. 2.0 motherboard with two damaged components by USB-C shorted (totally burned out), but I can't find their references or compatible spare parts.

    In the schematic of the motherboard they are marked as;
    U4706 - (NBS_SOIC_6P_005)
    D4701 - (NBS_SOT323_3P_000)

Does anyone know the references of these components?

    Thanks in advance

D4701 is probably a tvs diode to protect the D+ and D- lines of the usb 2.0 signals.

The best way to confirm this is to check the schematics if available.

If not available, highlight the pads of the Diode part.
One pin will most likely be GROUND.

Next pin will be D+ but confirm it with the board view file. Then D-. Just an educated guess till I can review against my database. This appears to be SOT-23 or SC-70 package. They are 2 different sizes. This part is very common to source if the guess is right.

        Thank you very much Mon2!

I found the D4701 and I am happy to agree with your contribution , according that reference I have seen the following spare parts
        https://www.mouser.es/ProductDetail/...hb%252BQ%3D%3D
        https://www.mouser.es/ProductDetail/...%2FVOnvQ%3D%3D

I see that the component you have located for me (D4706 - BD2243G) is not in stock, although I see a similar one that should work
        https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...F%252BcA%3D%3D

I will check with these spare if we fix the problem

Again, Thank you for the info

          Re: Asus GL552VW Rev. 2.0 - USB-C Shorted

These are very common USB 2.0 current limiting load switches used by many motherboard companies. Host adapter companies on the other hand do NOT use such part to save every penny.

See attached for the datasheet from ROHM (out of stock part).

Also the Diodes Inc. replacement that is in stock @ Mouser. There could be others out there as well but have confirmed that this will be a drop in replacement for this load switch. Same pinout, same footprint, same ILIM configuration via the external resistor.

The key requirement is that you need the ENABLE pin to be ACTIVE_LOW. So when the ENABLE = 0V (logic '0'), the USB load switch will turn ON. That is how the original ROHM part functioned as well.

Just confirm the details again, in case I missed some detail but 99.9% sure you are ok here.

Replace with the following Diodes Inc. USB load switch:

          AP22652W6-7

          Update:

LOL. I think your choice will also work. Order a few of both versions. From a quick glance, the difference is that the original USB load switch had a discharge feature to quickly remove any potential on the Vbus rail when the laptop is OFF. Not a big feature to lose.
