    E-Bay store

Anyone ever buy from this guy http://cgi.ebay.com/200pc-Rubycon-10...4.c0.m14.l1262 ?
A really good price, but could they be counterfeit?

I don't know if they are fakes, but if I'm not wrong they are 5 years old, I think T0449 is the date code for 2004.

Let's see more comment on them.

Those caps on eBay are cheap, I don't think it would hurt to purchase a few and test them out on a motherboard or power supply.

I also attached the datasheet for the series of Rubycon caps in the photo (ZLH series).

Ugh. Five years old. What shelf-life do they usually have? They are perfect for replacing all those 1000 uF sprinkled all over the board at PCI slots etc. There are often between 8 and 20 of them to replace at locations which doesn't require such extreme low ESR as to warrant the more expensive MBZ or MCZ, and the size is perfect (8x16).
The only other source I know for them is Farnell, but at almost a dollar a piece, it hurts. This would be really perfect, as long as they're genuine and not too old. I might place an order for, say six, and see if they measure up.

I have used 4 year old capacitors on motherboards without any issue. Maybe the picture on the eBay listing is an old picture.

At that cheap price, I'd say it's worth ordering a few and see if they last.

I found an auction for 20, so I ordered them to check them out. A modest sum. We'll see. If they check out, I'll order more.

                Re: E-Bay store

I searched for info about shelf life and I found some indication on Panasonic, here attached a page (operation_storage) extracted from this document .
On Panasonic FC datasheet you can read:
                Shelf Life
After storage for 1000 hours at +105±2 °C with no voltage applied and then being stabilized
at +20 °C, capacitor shall meet the limits specified in “Endurance”.(With voltage treatment)
In another document coming from Rubycon they wrote:
                3.7. Shelf Life
When aluminum electrolytic capacitor is stored for a
long time without electric charge, leakage current and
ESR may increase and capacitance may decrease.
However such changes are very small after the storage
around two years at room temperature for general
capacitors or after around 6 months for low leakage
products, so that it will not be a practical problem.

It is explained that such changes are caused by
chemical reaction between electrolyte and aluminum
                oxide film.

One of the reasons why leakage current increases is
the penetration of electrolyte into defects in the oxide
film in lieu of the diffusion of oxygen protecting the
defects into bulk electrolyte. If capacitor is exposed to
high temperature atmosphere, sealing material can be
degraded to lower sealing power and electrolyte can be
lost due to dissipation; both of which may bring change
                in characteristics.
I attached the document (performances) here.
I don't know it the "voltage treatment" it is necessary on capacitor older than 2 years and if the Panasonic method is suitable with other brands.
