Get prime95 and run torture mode. It is a excutable files only so it does not install into windows itself. So it is safe test to perform. I use this to confirm the hardware are stable.

Theres plenty to unhappy stories if you type it in google.

Nearly all updates make things worse in my findings.

First Geforce 6 driver was the most compatible and fastest.
Early Geforce 2 driver was most compatible and fastest.

It may not even be a conincidence that patches make things worse. But if you want a job in IT you probably will already know you're not meant to admit that truth. That and nobody needs a CPU faster than 8Mhz.

Sounds like a bad power connection or HDD data cable connection.

My MSI 845 E Max did that sometimes, but not partition corruption like you're describing, it just locks and and thus required to hard shut down.

Has done that before when I just tapped the left side of the case.
Seems to do alot better when I unplug the all the power connectors and IDE connectors and replug them back in.

It may be the modular power connectors on my Antec SmartPower 2.0 500 W PSU.

Thats a good point that hasn't been brought up.

I replaced the standard SATA2 ones with with branded ones. Still I've told him to stop trying to hot plug eSATA devices. His docking station has these warnings all over the box.
