    Identification of parts

    Hi guys,

A quick one for you. Can you identify the components in the attached picture for me?
It is a small board from the back of my dash (fuel gauge) on my tractor which has dual fuel tank. I think the components are busted and need to be replaced.

They are resistors, the larger one is 1k ohms and the smaller might be 330 ohm I can't make out the color bands, check them with an ohm meter

It could be 3.3kΩ (orange, orange, red). Do you have a multimeter to check the resistance?
After a closer look, that larger resistor looks like a 1kΩ (brown, black, red)

Yes I have a multimeter. Do they need to be released from the board to test?

NO, I looked at the other side of the picture and they don't seem to be connected to anything else

your problem is probably all that shit on the contacts,
try cleaning it up with a wire brush or something - the same goes for the bits that go onto them.

Pic of readings attached. First one is the big resistor

                    Re: Identification of parts

So the lager one is marked 82Ω 5% and measures 85Ω which is ok, the smaller one is marked 330Ω 5% and measure 337 which is also ok
In the first picture I thought it was a 1k but that was incorrect, that gold band looked brown so I read it the wrong way.

So what is the fault with the guage reading?

Those female terminals look badly corroded, need good cleaning for sure, probable the same for the Male terminals.
Also check the solder joints on the terminal where the resistors are soldered to.

Thanks guys. A good clean up of all joints so. The fault is when I turn in the ignition the gauge goes straight to full. Will clean them up and see

                          Re: Identification of parts

check the sender and it's connections.
some guages work kind of backwards, the meter is biased to full, and the sender brings it down.
