    I found a recovery disk for a IBM 8183 : A50

I found a recovery disk for this computer

The biggest problem with recovery is there are no instructions on how to do it

I will give some details on how you do this shortly

Unless you see this screen with all the pop up come up

It did not not install correctly
    Attached Files
    9 PC LCD Monitor
    6 LCD Flat Screen TV
30 Desk Top Switching Power Supply
10 Battery Charger Switching Power Supply for Power Tool
6 18v Lithium Battery Power Boards for Tool Battery Packs
1 XBox 360 Switching Power Supply and M Board
    25 Servo Drives 220/460 3 Phase
6 De-soldering Station Switching Power Supply 1 Power Supply
    1 Dell Mother Board
    15 Computer Power Supply
1 HP Printer Supply & Control Board * lighting finished it *

These two repairs where found with a ESR meter...> Temp at 50*F then at 90*F the ESR reading more than 10%

1 Over Head Crane Current Sensing Board ( VFD Failure Five Years Later )
2 Hem Saw Computer Stack Board

All of these had CAPs POOF
All of the mosfet that are taken out by bad caps

Have a look at the cd contents, hopefully it is an actual RECOVERY disc and not one that just starts up and redirects to the recovery partition on the original hard drive.
    See if it will boot?

Here is where I got the the recovery disk from

      https://restorecd4u.com/

Like I said earlier there are no instruction on how to use this recovery disk

The fist thing you have to do is use the dos command to remove all partitions from the drive and once it has copy all the files then remove the recovery disk before it restarts ( there is no message to do this ) then you see it copy the files from drive D to drive C

Then It will reboot a few time and the begin to load Windows
If you do not see the window pop ups then it did not install correctly

It was well worth the $18.00 that I spend on this Recovery Disk

No it is a Recovery Disk but not what I am use to
          This one work completely differently

The problem I was having was I had used this drive before it had Windows XP Pro on it already

You really need to format the drive but I did not want wait the 8 hour that it said it was going to take so it would not load correctly

because it is a DOS based windows 98 format because once it loads all the files and it boot to windows it changes the fat32 files to NTSF file format

In fact I am using this computer to reply to this post

I have service pack 3 installed and using My Pal Moon browser which works pretty good

Try doing a quick format on the drive, or use an install cd and when propted, chose delete existing partition and reformat.

( but you can not select these item ) they are zip file it has it own unzip-er program
the program bring up what it thinks you need to do

One is PC Doctor that you can format the drive
check devices hard drive memory other items

If you look at the files on these four disk you do not see any .EXE file on it

When I finish working on another IBM 8183 computer I will take some pictures of some of the screens that pop up while is installing items

I tried that it dose not work it
It need to be format 0 and 1 or maybe Not fat32 format ?

because when I deleted all the partitions then is when it format the drive the way it need to be ( because the format would only show 5% done and then start copying files ) when you delete all the partitions then it formats twice to 100% and then copy files

                Yes I know that weird

Like I said earlier I have never seen a recovery setup this way

It dose take a while for the operating system to completely restored and doses not install the video driver or the chip-set drivers either you have do that your self

If it's windows xp I would use ntfs file system , not fat32

I have no idea what this means. What is it? do you mean recovery software? It likely created a D: drive so it had a place to expand the files, Or it created a recovery partition, then installed them on C: the boot drive.
If you had nothing in the CD what started this process?

                        Re: I found a recovery disk for a IBM 8183 : A50

The first thing it does when you first put disk one in it comes up with a screen that says

                        IBM recovery system

Then it load some DOS files and then a screen comes up with a selection screen asking do you want to test system device and format drives

                        Or

                        Install recovery files

If you select this item then if it work right it will format message will show twice but does not say what drives

After it does this then it copy files from all four disks then the screen goes black and reboots I know this from when I had done this several times but this I thought when it does this I going to remove the disk four and see what it does because one of times I did it has the windows 98 screen display for a second and then goes to the C prompt it has the recovery files that Windows 98 would have

This when you put back in then is when you put in the disk one back in it again now it copy more files and this where you see the windows XP files loaded after you put all four disk in it again and finish’s coping files it reboots again and you take out the recovery disk four

Now this time is where it read files on drive D and copy’s them to drive C then after it does this and finish this then it reboots again and this time it expands all files very quickly and after finish with this then it reboots again

Then it boot to Windows XP screen and does something and reboots again

This time when it get to the windows screen this time the windows screen display the fact that the files are fat32 and going to change then to NTSF files after it done with this it reboots again

This time it has the screen display the messages that I posted earlier and it does this for some time and reboots several times before it has finished

I will take some pictures of the screens that come up as you are doing this recovery

I have another computer that I going to setup that is also a IBM 8183 : S50 I will be using this recovery disk again for this ——>

( this might take a a little while because I have to recap a power supply for this computer and recap part of the mother board before I can put it back into service again)

If you have been following my post on my Battery Tester Machine I was using a Windows 7 machine
But I have tried the battery tester machine software on Windows XP and works just as good so I going use on Windows XP

I suspect that is the case how else could it do this but it does not always tell you what it is doing there period of time where nothing new is being displayed so you have no idea what it is doing you just have black screen and no new message or a line that is moving in a circle or dots that are moving on the screen it just black with white lettering

So it seems like everything is working, I suspect it does create a recovery partition, so if something happens to the os in the future, you should be able to select recovery by pressing F11?

The only problem is that it is not selectable the program makes that determination not the user
If you use the recovery disk

I will have to try F11 when I do the next computer and see what and how it does it

I was wrong about when the sequence. With the computer turned OFF, you hold F11 or ENTER and turn ON the computer to access the recovery.

This is what I was talking about.

I know that, but now with the recovery discs you have, it might have restored the recovery partition on the NEW hard drive.

why...why not just burn a fresh XP ISO and reinstall fresh without using a recovery disk?

why do you need to use the recovery disk?
