You should use a company email account promising a "huge" project. Usually works. :-)

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

Yes it is normally open contact so the relay has to close to give power to the heater and motor.
So the LINE INPUT IS FED to the relay contact to feed the AC to run the board, it is also fed to the second relay (RELAY 2) to run the load connected to that 2-pin connector next to RELAY2.
I am beginning to see more how it function now, we just need to find out why the power supply is not working, or the power supply section on the board is OK but not the controller section.

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

My own fireplace recently stopped working, took it apart and found the mainboard to be almost identical to the one shown here (see attached). In my case, everything save for the blower motor & heater works.

I've probed the larger Golden relay and sure enough, nothing across it. From the datasheet posted above, 12V across the coil should switch it. I probed for 12V at pin 10 of IC6 (which is indeed a Darlington transistor array, ULN2003AN in this case - https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...83d958bacf.pdf ) but got nothing.

Unfortunately this is where my hobbyist knowledge hits a ceiling, any advice on where to go from here is appreciated!

PS. I've uploaded the board pics in a zip as well, as the filesizes of the uploaded JPGs were about half what they are on my computer, the forum may further compress them?

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

To clarify the board connectors a bit:

DISPLAY - goes to the front panel display/input, basically identical to the one previously posted.
NTC - looks to be a temperature probe, is mounted right beside the blower/heater assembly.
PLUG1 & PLUG2 - power two strips of ambient-lighting LEDs on either side of the unit
FLAME - powers a strip of LEDs at the bottom of the unit, this creates the light for the 'flame' effect
MOTOR - powers a small motor driving a long strip of shiny prongs, creating the flame effect

All features mentioned above work just fine on this unit. The only issue is the blower/heater assembly as it receives no voltage from the relay & thus won't engage.

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

is the voltage going IN to the relay, and is the relay coil o.k. and recieving power?

answer that and you probably find the issue.

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

Pin 10 of IC6 should go low and pin 7 should go high when the coil is energised. The other coil pin should be sitting at +12V (the supply voltage).

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

Just as an update for anyone else running into this, it turned out to be an issue with the rotation speed of the blower motor. Initially I had thought the relay was bad, but must've erred in how I was probing things as the relay turned out to be fine.

The existing blower assembly was gunked up enough for the motor to be unable to spin it. It spun fine by hand, but turns out there must be nearly no friction/resistance for the motor driving it to achieve the necessary RPM & airflow. Even after a cleaning, it didn't achieve the necessary speeds to keep the heating element from getting too hot and triggering the attached thermal probe.

Fortunately, after contacting the manufacturer, they offered to ship me a replacement blower/heater unit *FOR FREE*; the unit has been working fine since. Thank you all for the help!

Re: Muskoka 35" curved fireplace power supply.

I have found this because I have the same problem.
The first thing I found strange is that the ON/OFF switch is in the neutral line.
This then goes to Relay 1 on one of the top spade connecters.
On the other side of the board this is the point red inked as the normally open contact, not the red inked common contact.
This tallies with BUD M's diagram dated 04/17/2015 (American date format. In Uk that is 17/04/2015).
There are in fact two motors on this, one for the flame effect and the second is built into the heater element. The first motor is the connecter marked with ??? in BUD M's diagram.
So that means Full Marks to BUD M for his work.
Shame that this thread has seemed to die, I would have really liked to know the final outcome for the OP.
Meanwhile I wil troll a bit deeper into the circuitry with a thing that very rarely gets used and has always worked in the past but as usual when wanted it failed.

So is the switching power supply working on your board?
It will be great if you can draw the wiring diagram show how the external components are connected to the board.

Hi, just logged on to this forum as I had a Muskoka MHC35BL electric fire with the same fault (wouldn't switch on), google search brought me here, with the help of the previous posts and especially budm with his excellent diagram managed to diagnose what was happening. Had my 330v OK, problem was the secondary circuit. Fault was traced to a shorted schottky diode SR3100 (D10 on the pcb). Replaced the diode and all is OK now. Don't know if this is a major fault with these fires but thought I'd post on this thread an answer to the fault.
                                Thanks again for all help.

i don't know if this is the right place for this because mine is a deferent model but similar boards and it is doing the same thing with "with nothing turning on". I have tested the power switch board and everything seems to be working in order so know I'm on the main board, i tested the relay to the best of my knowledge and it seemed to be working but ended up replacing it anyway just to eliminate that as a problem thats why it's missing off the board in attachment. after reading this thread and trying other's fix's mine still well not turn on. all help is really appreciated.

so my question is after the relay what do i need to check?

You need to put the relay back in place otherwise the board will have AC to run the switching power supply.
                                      Did you check D10?

Yes the AC Line "L INPUT" comes into the board through the big relay top spade terminal. Then you need Neutral to pin 1 of the other connector, to give the board power.

I would check the "fuse" (fusible resistor in heatshrink tubing?) next to RELAY1, and then look for DC power at filter cap C5, probably 12VDC.
