Re: hole on cap
thanks. this is a cautionary tale for me not to use dented, holey or pierced caps. i've always wondered if it was okay to continue using them or to recap them at once. this answers my question. i shall stop using those stuff with dented, holey and pierced caps and recap them whenever i get the chance or spare time.Comment

Re: hole on cap
yes i measure the legs from the cap and fits excactly on the two holes.wrong package and during transport hit each other. if i remember correctly the packet was to big and include some other smal components i have ordered semicontuctors and so on.is a wonder hold so long the cap.don't use a lot the amp since last winter maybe 50-60 hours til now.Comment

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by 13mh13The PCB motor for 1987 Technics SLP-120 CD player has slow spin-up issues. Similar to what another tech in the below video reported.

I replaced the three bi-polar 47uF electros but that made no difference. The orig three bi-polar 47uF electros tested okay on my ESR M-tester.
I have not tested/replaced those alum. SMD electro PCB caps.
Are Al smd caps are more prone to failure (or degradation) than regular thru-hole electros?
All the thru hole electros I removed / replaced on this CDP (and most...-

by SluggerBI am trying to fix a broken plasma TV by replacing a large cap on the power board. It is a 1900uf 220v cap and I could only find one place that sells them. It was listed as through hole, so I bought it. It showed up today, but instead of through hole, it has spade connectors.
Would it be safe to get some heavy duty wire (like lamp cord wire), connect that to spade connectors, connect them to the spades on the cap, and run the other ends of the wire 2-3 inches to the holes and then through the holes and solder them in place? I actually did it already and put it together but...-

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by tmhobadcapI need to desolder a bridge rectifier as shown on the attached photos. I found that two of the four holes are different from the other two holes. The middle two holes have something like a metal ring on the hole. Is there any reason for this? When desoldering, is special technique and/or equipment needed?2 Photos
