    Painted an soldering iron.

I had a rusted soldering iron stand, which had paint peeling off, so I though I have a go at spray painting the holder.
First I sanded it, with sand paper and then I prepared the surface for painting.

So I used a primer, then the colour, followed by the seal coat.

What else am I to do so it will not melt when I used it for soldering.

A high temp paint would be better, that paint will heat up some and at least smell.

a car shop would sell "block paint"
heatproof paint for engine blocks and exhaust manifolds.

      too late now though!

There should'nt be any problem with heat on the base, the rust most likely came from the wet spunge that sits in the tray used to clean the tip.
