        Re: Transitor/ESR tester dead

the usb socket is nothing to do with it - that's just for charging a lithium battery - you see this model on ebay.

programming is done through a 6 or 10 pin header.

          used in conjunction wih this:
          http://www.fischl.de/usbasp/

supplied dirt cheap and improved by our friends.
          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261574745774

i actually built one on stripboard before i noticed them on ebay, it cost me about 5 times the price to build!

here is the schem of the superior chinese one!

this one does but extra £4.00 you can probably buy the leads/clips cheaper

                    Re: Transitor/ESR tester dead

the leads are included, just not the clips on the end.
                    because mine is here!!!!
and i made some nice protection for it from a fucked lcd panel & some threaded spacers - pictures later!

btw, the firmware has the extra stuff compiled in it, if you hold the button down you get a menu.
then you can activate the frequency generator or pwm generator!

i tested the frequency generator with my multimeter that goes upto 10Mhz and the output was accurate

some pics with my acrylic shield.

i made an error in taping the battery down,
i'm going to get one of these for it.

That's much coolness. I won't get mine for 15 days at least. All those I saw shopping online couldn't deliver any sooner though and the shipping was free, they all ship from China anyhow so what's the diff? Maybe I'll get another cute little Chinese trinket!

I hope I get a Chinese trinket. I love those things.

I won't bother repairing this old tester, BTW.

you should fix it just for the challenge.

                                  Re: Transitor/ESR tester dead

I got mine yesterday for $16.95 from AliExpress. Very cool device. I'll mount it on plastic and put some clips on the leads. I've only tried it once and the display is so much better than the old one. It was worth it just for that alone.

the expensive (relativly) one that looked better made.
                                        http://www.ebay.com/itm/231241921964

it may not work right without changing the firmware though - we shall see.
that's one of the reasons i soldered the 6pin header on.

i will also add a usb-port for a pc client program that may ID transistors from a database in the future!!
