    Re: Bakon BK950D

the tips are 70-75w at 24v,
i dont know why the controller is 19v but i suspect it uses a laptop transformer.

the russian guys have modded it for 24v btw.
i wont post the sketchy details now,
but heres the schem of the original unit.

      Re: Bakon BK950D

So does your Bakon 950D run with 75W out of the box? I wonder if I got a fake one, if all 950D units are only 45W and always were, or if Bakon secretly changed the product some time ago?

The seller offered me 3 USD discount, I am still not clear what to think of all this. Damn …

Part of this iron near where the tip goes in it came off.
          It separated from the holder.

Anything like this happen to you too.

          Looks like loosy made.

Yeah, the rubber grommet is loose on mine too.It doesn't affect usage at all.

It is really good at melting silver solder.

the rubber bit is called the "strain-relief" - push it back in.

I going to ask really stupid question here but where is the temperature sensor part of this circuit

I see how the iron get it power from but how does it control the temperature where is the sensor part

                      Re: Bakon BK950D

first you need to understand the iron cartridge,
the element and sensor are in series.

so the base senses the voltage returning from the iron in between the pulses from the fet powering the element.

if you want to use a battery, you just need to use the control board and get a small 5v regulator to power the microcontroller from your input voltage.

                      now to your question.
if you look at the upper right of the second diagram, you will see the iron signal just before the fet branches down to an LM358 op-amp.
this then feeds the analog input on the microcontroller.

Thanks for the explanation of how this works

What type of sensor is it ?

Do you know how fast the pluses are

is this like PWM or is a set pluse that does not change in value

sensor is a cold junction themister - it generates voltage.

                            i think it's pwm.

In maplins there are two solders for sale, one normal lead free solder and lead free silver solder. I want to use normal one, my tip of soldering iron used the silver solder.

Will the silver solder always remain there?
