We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

The only thing dif. is warranty

People buy brand names they are familiar with. In North America, Amprobe, Extech and Greenlee all have presence and mindshare. Brymen does not. Outside of the eevblog circle/world, very few people know about Brymen. Most won't spend $250+ USD on a meter brand they never heard of.

Fluke and Agilent have major presence in North America and they usually make and design their own meters so they don't have to get an ODM/OEM.

But now that's not the case ... they get Brymen design and rebrand :-) :-) :-)

There is a youtube video showing someone using a Fluke bench meter with lots of resolution narrowing down a short on a HK AVR receiver. By moving the probes around, he found the short.

So resolution can help, but I don't troubleshoot shorts that often so I don't know how successful it is.

I think the youtube guy is on eevblog forums.

Don't plan on buying one. I help because I learn when I help others. I have been watching Dave's video since #5 or #6 and know about Brymen through eevblog forums.

I buy used and abused Fluke meters because they are popular in North America and as such, with patience, I can get a good deal. I try to buy "broken" Fluke meters for under $25 USD.

That is why I won't spend $250 USD for a Brymen 86x. I don't need a meter like that since the highest voltage I measure is 120VAC and up to 400VDC. If I do measure these voltages it is done, whenever possible, hands free using clips.

I always have trusted known working meter clipped to the large filter capacitor (up to 400VDC) to make sure it is discharged before proceeding. This is why ...

I personally like the Fluke 187, but understand that other people have different requirements, budget and applications. As such, I always ask what is the meter going to be used for and what is the budget.

                    And in your lab. ?
I don't have one. I do repairs, believe it or not, on the kitchen floor.

I have some VERY cheap meters, I also have a ExTech and I have a Fluke 187. The build quality of the Fluke is considerably better than the Extech, but, the Extech is a very good meter for the price point, the only thing I miss is the silicone rubber leads found on the Fluke which are worth every penny.

The Fluke I own was used in an industrial setting before it was broken through day to day abuse. It was given to me as a project and it sat in a drawer for 3 years unloved. I eventually got round to finding the fault, replacing the part (direct from Fluke) and it now works great. I even paid for it to be calibrated only for it to return with a certificate telling me it was still within specification.
